Default Can Disco And Techno Exist On The Same Turntables?

Most Dance music stations say no even though they've never tried it. As I mentioned in a previous post, back in 2002, a dance music station in South Florida, which by the way is now dead, stated that it wouldn't or could never work. I emailed them and called them requesting that they play some up tempo disco classics on their turntable and mix them in with dance, techno, and the other types of dance music, and they vehemently stated it wouldn't work; but I know it can and would.

I have heard reports of more and more DJ's nationwide and around the world mixing in old disco records with dance and techno, and they are using the original versions, unmixed and unmastered! And guess what? Surprisingly
positive responses are being garnered. If you think not, email Jussik and he'll tell you it can work (he is a DJ).

So what do y'all think? I also think that this forum should forge ahead, put our disco noodles (brains) in gear, and start a network of dance music stations showcasing dance music from it's humble beginnings in the early 70's to dance/techno, playing it all! I have experience in starting non-profit organizations, and if money is scaring everyone, then call me and I can give some recommendations and opinions on what direction(s) we could take.

Let me know y'all's take on this threads topic; I think disco and techno can co-exist on the turntable!

Yes Garry, in Belgium it's quite common.

The Glimmers (Soulwax), Smos And Baby B, L-Fêtes, Mo & Benoelie, they all do it, live in their clubs.

For instance, check out the tracks on these famous Eskimo-compilations!

this sort of stylistic combnation has been going on for years; i'm slightly puzzled that you have not heard more of it. dimitri from paris and joey negro are two famous examples that have been doing it since the early 90s.

Not in this neck of the woods Boogie Doctor; where do you live? I'm talking South Florida which is the only place where you will hear good and solid dance and techno. I live in West Central Florida and dance/techno is resigned to Saturday nights into Sunday mornings, and you don't hear disco along with techno. Maybe in the larger metros (New York, LA, Chicago) but not where I am.

Gazza - check out the Dimitri From Paris mix CDs/LP sets 'Live at the Playboy Mansion,' and 'Before the Playboy Mansion' for some tantalizing examples of the mentioned stylistic combinations. These are really top-knotch.
