Default Buddy Rich disco ......

*****

Buddy Rich famed big band drum player had pretty much completed his musical career by the time disco kicked in .... so I was surprised to come upon this one :

BUDDY RICH AND HIS BIG BAND MACHINE
SPEAK NO EVIL
1976

Boy everything about the cover says disco the scantily clothed cover girls of a variety of races ...the back cover of Buddy Rich in Kung Fu
action shots .

song selections like :

FIGHT THE POWER --- Isleys
SNEAKIN' UP BEHIND YOU --- Brecker Bros.

GAMES PEOPLE PLAY -- Spinners

The instruments ---
drums/ percussion. trumpet, guitar, tenor baritone alto sax, trombone, tuba, electric piano ........... (no strings)

And these ladies singing : Vivian Cherry, Rhetta Hughes, Lani Groves

In truth though these songs found here tilt more to the side of jazz than disco .... jazz with a real get up and boogie groove to it though
There's a version of Natalie Cole's
SOPHISTACTED LADY that calls to mind The Ohio Players .The title track SPEAK NO EVIL ...has some MFSB to it ...

Two songs SNEAKIN' UP BEHIND YOU ( AWB sounding and with cowbell toward the end ) and especially HOW LONG (BETCHA GOT A CHICK ON THE SIDE) ( Pointer Sisters) ( bongos and high hat ) are disco enough in flavor to earn honorable mentions in this genre.

Not one to rush out and buy .....but if you like jazz anyway especially with plenty of horns .... and spot it ....well I'm glad I picked it up .... good song assortment .... excellent sound/mixing ....
....
