Exclamation Bobby Viteritti of Trocadero Transfer Is Here!

Just had to let everyone know that DJ Bobby Viteritti is alive and well and now a member of the DiscoMusic.com forum. I set up his account earlier today so he is lurking about. It would be great if all his fans posted here to let him know that his talents are not forgotten and perhaps ask him a few questions.

If you haven't seen it yet I conducted a nice interview with Bobby Viteritti a few years back. http://www.discomusic.com/people-more/53_0_11_0_C/

Heard the Viteretti mix of "Magnifique" through big speakers recently - stunning stuff. I especially love the way the vocals suddenly appear half way into the track, coming in space stereo from all directions. The effect is positively cosmic. Would be very interesting to see the whole mix cataloque of his in print here!

Hi Jussi,

Long time no speak :-(

Bobby V recently gave me two CDs of his old mixes from a 1979 Trocadero White Party. They've been on the web in lo-fi, but It's the first time I've been able to listen to his mixes on a nice sound system and I was blown away. His mixing is not just on the beat, as he told me once before, he's also connecting with something else in the songs almost in the midrange which gives it a unique quality. What's also interesting is that these mixes were recorded off the board "live" with the mic open so we can hear the crowd yelling and screaming with each new song. Great stuff!

Here's a tracklisting for the first CD:

Native New Yorker 4:56 Odyssey
Hang Together 3:57 Odyssey
Saturday Night, Sunday Morning 4:48 Thelma Houston
Don't Pity Me 2:41 Faith, Hope & Charity
Just Us 3:27 Two Ton's O' Fun
Runaway Love 5:20 Linda Clifford
Mellow Blow 3:42 Barrabas
Don't Let Go 5:33 Tony Orlando
Stars In Your Eyes 8:42 Herbie Hancock
How Do You Know It Was 6:33 Barry White
Anambra 3:52 Ozo
Rotation 4:59 Herb Alpert
Love's Theme 1:39 Barry White
Under the Influence of Love 3:49 Love Unlimited Orchestra
Changes 4:41 Sharon Ridley
Night Fever 3:02 Bee Gees
Now That I Found You 3:49 Al Hudson

WELCOME BOBBY!!

You'll find many fans of yours here! Hope you can take some time to talk about some of your Dj adventures that we get to read so much about! And of course some mixing technique insight would be great. I in particular would like to hear about how the Magnifique "magic" happened. Again welcome .

I too welcome Bobby V!!!!....I was the guy with Keefe (from Aloha) at the first Remember The Party---you danced with us briefly to, uh, "Life Is Music" as I recall. You said you "remembered me" (?!!?) -- [cue Sondheim]..."or were you just being kind?-- or am I"...nevermind. ....or do you say that to all the old Troc dancers????

Anyway, I'm a big fan of the "sound" you created for Trocadero....would love to hear how you found all those offbeat titles you used in the "morning sessions"..did you get tons of promos from all music genres and scour each and every one for things that could work in a morning session? ---everything from smooth jazz Bob James to prog rock Alan Parsons Project tracks appear in the morning sessions [or were you just a fan of all types of music and discovered tracks because you liked the artists?]...the eclecticism of your approach always fascinated me. In the morning [cue Carol Douglas] you played things no one else ever did-- a mix of the jazzy, rockish, reggae-ish, African, poppy, funky, and smooth as silk r&b--all swirled together to keep the dancer interested and engaged. I liked that you were more inclusive of other music genres than most DJs-- the pop hit "Year Of The Cat" by Al Stewart is on one of your compilations!!! --and it works beautifully!!!! It always appeared you did more "homework" than the average DJ....would love to hear about that. And then there's the reverence for those old early Seventies titles you played on 7" that I respect as well...

Anyway, your input is always appreciated.

Afterthought: Bobby's all inclusive approach ["let's find a way to make it fit in"] to various genres of dance music reminds me of how Barry Walters programs his radio show......and that's a good thing!!!

Thanks to Lary Sanders and Barry Lederer, we were put back in touch with Bobby V. about a month or so ago. It was nice to hear from him after an extended absence. Bobby told me he's been taking good care of himself and strategizing his COMEBACK!

One of his first steps is to set up a website and you can see the start at Bobby Viteritti's Homepage !

I can't wait to hear some of the new morning sets that he's mentioned he's been working on. As Marky commented, at Troc, we could rely on Bobby to introduce us to some electic treasures that we never dreamed would be played at a club, much less keep us on the dancefloor. However, he did it all the time!

Welcome back Bobby!!!

Hey Bernie and Jussi, glad to hear you're getting the chance to hear a bit of the Trocadero magic that endeared Bobby to so many of us - even to this date!!!

Wow Bobby Great to have you here on the board.

Of course, I never had the chance to see/hear your magic live but I've heard some of your awesome mixes and that's pure heaven. The set you build, the tracks you select, it's a pleasure and privilege to connect with you here!

Superrrrrrr!

Hi and welcome Bobby.
I'm from switzerland, and I had never heard about you as a dj 'til I was lurking and participating to different message boards concerning djs-music-disco etc back a few years ago... I've heard several of your mixes online and discovered an incredible dj playing with passion and amazing feeling-technique. So welcome, you'll see (as you probably know) that disco is still much alive!!
peace
C.

Default Re: Bobby Viteritti speaks tp Bernie

I spoke to Bernie over the phone yesterday, and I must say he is as hardcore as they get when it comes to disco. Some of the Topics we spoke about like controlling a dance floor crowd, mistakes in the booth,Lots of laughing,my favorites,DJ mxing tecqnics, the new mixer Serrato by Rane, which I will speak about later, going back to the 70's ( I forgot to ask how old he was, but he knew who sang MORE by Carol Williams, not Carol Douglas) which is on my new C.D.I have so much to talk about including how I made my Magnifique remix,I don't know where to start. Some day I will tell you where I have been, just rent the C.D. live at the Albert Hall in London,,"Robbie Williams". Similar story, not nearly as famous. For now,I am building my Web site,,,slowly,,give me a few months for my MUSIC and of course everything else I can think of.Thanks Keith, you know who you are,,and the magical mystery tour will return.

In case you didn't see my posting in the Remember the Party 5 thread, Bobby's website has come roaring to life! Some great photographs of the interior of the Trocadero Transfer in one section. But the most exciting recent addition - sound clip samples from Bobby's recordings of his Trocadero sets from almost 30 years ago!!! They sound sooooo good. Look in the "Sample" section of the site. Each clip is around 15 to 20 minutes long and left me aching to hear more!

OMG!!! Bobby V. and his webmaster have given me little previews of the upcoming CD sets they will soon be offering to the public. Bobby has unearthed his tapes of his wonderful Trocadero Transfer sets and has had them remastered. Those of you who were lucky enough to have heard Bobby spin at the Trocadero are going to have an opportunity to relive those evenings again. Those of you who have wondered why Billboard named him Best National Disco DJ for two years straight (1979 & 1980) will find out why.

Also, something I wished for since the Trocadero days will also be offered! A compilation of Bobby's best remixes and reedits that he created to spin at the Trocadero will also be offered. Pretty much all of our favorite Bobby Viteritti remixes are on the two CD set (each one over an hour). I can't believe my wish became true almost 30 years later!
