| I'm pretty surprised everybody's always been and is so clean on this board... which is good!..but surprising. An occasional social drinker, I've tried other substances as well, although I've never smoked cigarettes (hate the stench). Obviously, being totally wasted is no means of enhancement of the senses, I can only agree with that. However, I have held parties with like-minded people, U.I, and actually tripped on a sound/instrument in a track that I thought I knew pretty well, but I'd never obviously paid close enough attention to before, and that all of a sudden became overwhelming... Some tracks turned from so-so to great after such experiences, and retained that status well after sobriety had kicked in. Remember that repetitive sounds (as in contemporary musical creations, especially dance music) are meant to induce a semi-trance. Primary African and South-American tribes have used percussions for ages, to put them in a state prone to making contact with "the gods", often with the help of coca leaves, mushrooms, etc... That's an enhanced version of the state you're in when "you boogie to the floor 'til you don't care no more"... An actual state you can easily attain if in the right mood, loose enough, and not necessarily with the help of chemicals... although they certainly ease you down that road. So yes, I beleive there's a true correlation between some fantastically inspired tracks and artificial mood setters. And although this will not be a popular statement, said mood setters also influence the recieving end of these tracks.

| Have you guys ever experienced what's called a "dopamine rush". Quite natural, but be careful. You know when you stay awake for 36-48 hours and then, BAM, flash, all your senses explode. I have, after working 2 days in a row once and then going to a club whilst trying to impress some girl with da real macho-attitude! It's amazing (but very tiring afterwards and not that healthy for your cardio-vascular system) and you really hear different sounds in a familiar record. Maybe that can be compared with taking real drugs and their effect on music. |

| Drugs have been a part of club culture for so long they're rather passe now, but OMG when you find the right one for you, the music you thought you loved, suddenly got a whole lot better I had my ears opened (and the third eye) at a rave in copenhagen, but it wasn't till I did my first ecstacy, did music make pure sense. I could feel it inside out, my hands moved involuntary and I danced all night with the biggest smile on face, matching everyone around me. I'd listened to Kraftwerk's Autobhan straight, then a year later tried it again after a rather large spliff.............man that was mad. And better Certain drugs DO lend themselves to certain music, as on one occasion on mdma I listened to Pachelbel's Canon and cried with the sheer beauty of it. Mind you, I bawled me eyes out when Tori Amos - Professional Widow remix got dropped at a club and the breakdown rippd me heart to pieces - in a good way obviously. Ripple' The Beat Goes On really captures the same feel, as did Rose Royce's R R Express. Perfect music, just made, er, more perfect. Nowt wrong with that. |

| My only gripe is being judged by people who have never tried a drug, yet somehow feel morally superior and tell you it's wrong....why how would you know? And if someones wants to trott out the statistics of people dying, mental illness or doing something dangerous, well...............considered how many thousands of pills are dropped each Fri & Sat then compare it as a %. It's unfortunate, but neglible. More chance of something bad happening whilst you're driving!! Use them, don't let them use you. Either you have an addictive nature or you don't - that's human nature. |
