Default Patti Austin Disco Diva...

Check out These 2 songs From The Cd... BODY LANGUAGE by Patti Austin
1."(Ooh-Wee) He's Killing Me" & "Soar Me like an Eagle Flies" these were very blatant attempts to launch Patti as a Disco Queen!

Don't forget Patti's guest vocals on both Frankie Valli's "Swearin' To God" & "Our Day Will Come" (both from 1975)...she's the female voice..."I was born for you, baby"...sings several lines on both records by herself.

Patti also did backing vocals on Steely Dan's Gaucho album (1980).

Patti duetted with Michael on Off the Wall's 'Its The Falling In Love' & George Benson on Give Me The Night's 'Moodys Mood' & sang on numerous Quincy Jones (her god father) LPs, Bob James LPs, tracks by Joe Thomas, Luther Vandross etc.etc. She's a super-session singer par excellance like Jocelyn Brown & Gwen Guthrie where it's harder to find tracks she didn't sing on!

Actually that Body Language LP came out in 1980 so some might say that Ms.Austin missed the 'disco boat' somewhat.

So far as I recall whilst it was a little after the disco period, her "Every Home Should Have One" album from 1981 made it to number 1 on the Billboard Disco Chart (or was it the Dance chart by then?). Was there any extended mixes from that album? I loved the title track.

This album contained the hits Baby Come to Me (Duet w/James Igram) and my favorite Do You Love Me (which there is a extended mix of, I'm looking for a copy now....)

My all-time favorite Patti Austin tune will always be Say You Love Me off her 1st LP. Great vocals and track, a mid-tempo masterpiece (written by Austin)

There was an import 12 inch for "Do You Love Me" - really an extended album version but excellent with an extended intro and break.

And, a promo 12 inch for "The Genie" - once again, more of an extended album version. Her early 80's work yielded many good dance songs - "Rhythm of the Street", "It's Gonna Be Special", "Shoot the Moon", "Honey for the Bees", "The Heat of Heat", etc.

sure makes me sad that Patti hasn't received nearly as much attention as other singers with only a fraction of her talent. It would help if she would tour more often (she's appearing in my area in Northern California soon). I read a story in my local newspaper a couple years ago that she popped into a local Walgreen's to buy some make up and attracted a lot of attention! And check out singer Lisa Fisher's excellent debut, "So Intense". In her upper register, you can't tell Fisher and Austin apart.

I recently saw Patti Austin on an "Ella Fitzgerald Tribute" on PBS singing a wild duet with Natalie Cole..."Mr. Paganini"...and they were AMAZING!!!

Patti had gastric bypass surgery and is very slimmed down.

What a wonderful voice...her new cd is a tribute to George Gershwin.

I love Patti and she is a very talented vocalist
she can sing Disco,Jazz, R& B ,Etc,but her yoyo dieting kept her from being in the limelight as much as she should have been.
She and my friend Sephra Herman"a music Contracter" would go on those liquid fasts like Luther Vandross did all the time and the weight would go down then up and it was a vicious circle. but Today Patti is slim and
has a new jazz Cd avaliable
