to Flatbush:

You see Rap as some form of "art". I don't.

You see sampling as "preserving" the old classics. I see it as maligning the classics.

They (the Rappers and Producers) didn't run out of ideas----THEY NEVER HAD ANY. They sample other people's work 'cause they have no talent to create their own. It's that simple. I can think of a few----A FEW---rap "songs" you can chew and swallow, but most you have to spit out. With this modern HIP HOP and Rap, American music has hit an all time low---and its promoters keep on digging deeper. How LOOOW can you go?

Think of it as being pimped by a whore, Fantomas. If someone is going to buy it, the promoters will keep on selling it.

Now you say that "I see rap as an art form, right...." If you can sample any song from for example "Three Blind Mice" and make a hit record out of it, then the producer will get the props for putting out that song. Of course, the original artist of that sample will receive credit for letting another artist use the sample through a production.

Take Jay-Z using "Annie's Theme" as a sample for Hard Knock Life, the song was a hit and the 45 King made a lot of money and resurfaced his career. It's not an art form that I see, it's the facts of a platinum album Fantomas.... Jay-Z won a grammy award, so what can you say about that one? Just the facts...

I agree that some of the rap records that we hear now are a bunch of noise, which only goes to show what I said in the beginning of this post which doesn't need to be repeated.

For the record, the term "whitebread" means bland and generic. It is not a comment on someone's race. Think Wonder White Bread (ie. bland, generic).....for your bologna sandwich.

Anyway, I thought white bread was an old expression with no racial overtones. I was under the impression it meant basic or generic.

Anyway, my guilty pleasure is Dancing Queen from Abba. I love that song. As an African-American, I get a lot of grief from the brothas when they here me play it. Oh well, I think the song is gradually getting into their system.

You caught that, eh, Brother? Decided to take my own advice, stepback and leave it alone. There are times when you just know... it's pointless.

Hey Nicky,

What happened to your message that I read last night??? Second thoughts? No regrets, my man. You said what the rest of us, white and black, have been thinking.

Sorry to see it gone, but I do understand. Sometimes, it's just not worth it to stir that pot, right???

You got it! I wrote it, took the dog out two hours later and decided I didn't want to become part of it. It's tiring...

LOVE YOU, KID... Osmond, Manilow, Denver  My eyes were tearing.

If we go by performers than Donna Summer is the numero uno. However, artistry is not limited only by who sings the song. We are just voiding out important contributions made by producers, songwriters, mixers, etc.

If that would be the case, then we have to include Tom Moulton, Jim Burgess, Meco, Giorgio Moroder, etc.

Have a Disco Life.
