Default Where's Costandinos?

I tried doing a search but didn't get squat.

I also tried google searching, but he seemed to drop off the face of the Earth after 1979/1980.

Does anyone know what Costandinos has been up to since he left the scene?

Costandinos is in Hollywood, making movies and occasionally writing soundtracks.

Hey Bernie,

Didn't you conduct an interview with Alec some years back.
Did you post it online? I don't seem to find it!

Just curious,
Pat C

Not a formal interview, but he did give me some tidbits of things. Never did get around to posting it as I thought one day a full blown interview was imminent. Will end up posting what I have sometime in the near future.

Thanks Bernie,

I did track down an interview of Costandinos on a site callled 'lost 45's' so I will check that one out in the meantime.

Costandinos produced my favorite album 'the Hunchback of Notre Dame' which is maybe not the most dancable record but what great arrangements and high production values. I've collected about 90% of Alec's work and even have the dutch bootleg 'Constantly Yours' I was lucky to purchase that rare item for aroung 25 bucks on ebay (can you imagine?).
Some of his other work like 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Romeo and Juliet' and of course the Costandinos-Cerrone masterpiece 'Love in C Minor' are gems too and riding high in my all-time top 25.

OMG, I just found a recent pic of Sir Alec. Dates from 2006 so he's alive & kicking: scroll down this page:

Yep Videoskooter, I had a listen to the interview last year, he was talking about technical stuff (new means of recording,...) nothing on his recording career in the seventies and eighties, but good to know he's still doing well and very active.

In any of his interviews did he mention why he won't allow his older work to be reissued?

My favorite Costandinos album was "Romeo and Juliet;" his works were danceable, but they were also listenable, classical artistic disco music works if you will; they were also theater productions in a musical sense and setting. Loved them!

Maybe he's like a lot of Producers and most of us from that era, letting bygones be bygones and moving on.......it was a bitter-sweet time for most of us including the Producers.......bitter because the music and era we loved was snuffed out for no good or apparent legitimate reason, sweet because all of those good and great memories still reside within us and will be with us for all eternity!

Fair enough but times have changed and his music is certainly hugely appreciated now--you'd think he'd take advantage. I know for a fact of several labels and compilations that have tried to lease his stuff with no luck...

Of course this isn't unique to Costandinos--even someone like Moroder has many of his best work out of print, but with Costandinos virtually ALL of it is...

It is rather frustrating considering that unless you own the vinyl versions ; his stuff is pretty much gone.

Years ago I saw that UNIDISC - LOVE & KISSES / ALEC COSTANDINOS at this used record store and didn't pick it up.In the meantime I started collecting everything coming out on UNIDISC...this past summer I went to a sidewalk sale and there was a huge table of stuff and everything was at 3/$5.

I found the 2 DISCO CLASSICS collection from RCA then as I was looking for a third one ; I couldn't believe my eyes but that elusive LOVE & KISSES/ALEC COSTANDINOS was there.

Now I'm happy ; the sound ain't all that but at least I have it on CD...My only gripes is that there is so much stuff missing and ti would have made a terrific 2 CD set.

I've been a fan of ALEC ever since my needle touched the ROMEO & JULIET record. What a great producer...

He's right up ther ein my top three. Thankfully with mp3s people have made and vinyls I think I have everything (nearly everything on this list http://rateyourmusic.com/list/tiger_...er_of_all_time_) but I'd still love nice cleaned up real releases...

What is the RCA set? I know about the long outa print Unidisc one but nothing else

Back in 1991 & 1992 ; RCA issued 2 compilations called DISCO CLASSICS [Vol.1 & 2] in which Canadian HiNRG producer VINCE DeGIORGIO [founder of POWER RECORDS] remixed VICKI SUE ROBINSON's TURN THE BEAT AROUND for a Canadian RCA 12in.

TURN THE BEAT AROUND was the only remix included but the CDs featured tracks by DONNA SUMMER,VAN McCOY,CHERYL LYNN,THE TRAMMPS,DR BUZZARD ORIGINAL SAVANNAH BAND,BIONIC BOOGIE,GINO SOCCIO and RALPH CARTER among others.

The sound was better than on the UNIDISC re-issues but most tracks on Vol.1 were merely 7in edits.
By the time they released Vol.2 ; they had included longer versions of WE ARE FAMILY,GOOD TIMES,IT'S ECSTASY and BOOGIE OOGIE OOGIE.

At the time ; I hadn't ripped anything from my vinyl collection and it was an easy way to get stuff on CD.I only re-bought them because I can't say no to a 3 for $5 sale ; let alone if they're disco compilations !!!
