I don't know about that, but I love Jim Croce.

I cried when he died. I was a teenager and that was my "day the music died".

Are there any disco versions of his songs?

remicks, mi amigo. It's a catchy tune but disco, it aint.
I'm guessing you were having a '70s moment. Doing a bong hit while listening Croce and a disco ball spinning overhead

At first I thought you were going to talk about Dave Crawford's cover version of the tune, from 1973. Now THAT was a early example of disco. The original was definitely not discotheque oriented.

Anyway .... where were we ....

ah yes , Jim Croce's BAD BAD LEROY BROWN as done by (as Disco Funk is aware) ... Dave Crawford (YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE /VICTIM ) .... (3:31) ABC 1973

Indeed an early disco tune .... 100% .... no doubt ...

--- Croce's song is as reworked as is possible ....without focusing on the words , one would never know this was the same number ....this is now Philly styled disco ... chugging along mid-tempo with suspiciously Earl Young sounding drumming .... strings join in within the first 16 bars ....brass blasts ... clavinet .... ongoing whistle blowing ....females chorusing prominently .... Dave Crawford 's vocal approach here could be mistaken for Pops Staple ... making this Croce song a more soulful Clarence Carter like story being told ...

The label credit actually reads Dave Crawford and L.O.V.E. .....the latter sure seems similar to a group about to call themselves : The Salsoul Orchestra ....

(any album attached to this one Disco Funk ......I hope ??)

Sadly this track was not included on any LP, as far as I know. He did an album in '76 called Here I Am, but that had songs recorded around that time, nothing earlier. He did do a cover of Millionaire on that record, which the Mighty Clouds of Joy did on their Kickin LP (also produced by Crawford). Here I Am is still a philly influence LP.

He did another single before that LP called Lady...something. I can't remember the song. It's got more of a shuffle dance beat, like Love Train, if I recall correctly.

Johnny Cash released some underground disco (like real underground) in the 50s that no-one really knows about...
