Default Questions about KRL CD Reissues (First Choice, TJM/Loose Change)

I think it was quite a while back on this forum, but I remember reading somewhere that the TJM/Loose Change CD reissue from KRL wasn't of the best sound quality.

I just got a vinyl copy of First Choice's "So Let Us Entertain You," and I absolutely love it, so I've been thinking of getting the KRL CD reissue of it. Before I buy, just wondering if anyone here has either the First Choice or the TJM/Loose Change two-fer, and if they're of good quality or not..

Thanks!

I gave a review of the Loose Change TJM CD. The Loose Change part was horrible, since they apparently used a vinyl record source. For the TJM tracks, they fade them out on the breaks, so you're not getting the full versions. The only reason to get it is if you want to get your hands on the track 'Storm Warning', which they credit as a TJM recording, but I haven't seen it listed anywhere other than on the CD.

If you want longer versions or clean versions of the tracks, the Loose Change record was released on CD in Japan. The sound quality is great. They even use the long mix of All Night Man (about 8min?), which was the 12" length version. The original LP version ran about 6min). For the TJM tracks, you can find 3 out of the 4 album tracks on the CD 'Sounds Like 54'. Some of the tracks on that 2 CD sound like crap, like the People's Choice track, but the TJM tracks are not only clean and crisp sounding, they are their full length versions. I'd also recommend the CD for the track 'Who Is Gonna Love Me' by Alfie Davison. This is a song that I overlooked before, but now I'm totally addicted to it. The CD doesn't have the full-length Tom Moulton mix of that track, sadly.

I can't speak for the First Choice So Let Us Entertain You CD. If they used the old Japanese CD as the source material, then it should sound great.

Thanks for the tip about Alfie Davison and the "Sounds Like 54" compilation! I haven't come across either of them before.

Thanks also for reminding me about the KRL TJM/Loose Change CD.. I remember those Japanese CD reissues of TJM and Loose Change. I still saw copies a few years back. I really wish I had bought copies then, they're practically impossible to find now, it seems. Same goes for the Japanese reissue of the First Choice CD..

It seems like KRL likely pulled a similar thing with the First Choice CD.. For whatever reason, The tracklist of the KRL reissue omits First Choice Theme/Ain't He Bad, but puts an an apparently previously unreleased track called "If You Become A Woman." Don't know if that one is on the Japanese CD, either way I'll probably just keep looking for the Japanese reissue of this one..

Thanks again!

If You Become A Woman? Never heard of that track. It wasn't on the Japanese CD. I think that CD just had the LP tracks, plus Don't Fake It and various mixes of Gotta Get Away (old ones, not new housed versions). I can't find an audio sample of the CD. Have you heard the If You Become A Woman track?

Thanks Ashley for the track listing. I didn't know the Japanese CD had the bonus track.

Thanks for the replies and info.. DF and ashley..

I haven't heard "If You Become A Woman" before, but I'm definitley keeping a look out for a decent copy of the Japanese CD.. It's too bad it's out of print, hopefully P-Vine or someone else will reissue it again at some point..

I took another listen to Sounds Like 54. Unfortunately, the TJM track 'I Don't Need No Music' is a 3 minute single edit. But I do know that 'Put Yourself In My Place' and 'Small Circle Of Friends' are in all of their 8 minute plus glory.

On "Sounds like 54", "Put yourself in my place" and "Small circle of friends" are edited (they've lost 30 seconds each).
