Default Which song of the classic disco era used the same groove of "Love is in the air"?
"Love is in the air" by John Paul Young was released in 1978 in the USA and earlier in Europe. In the same years another classic disco singer used the rhythm groove of "Love is in the air" for a different song...... Anyone?!?!

I'll answer Martin Stevens just in case you didn't formulate your question right. Both released the same song around the same time, and there was a court battle over the rights. I think Martin Stevens was from Canada or the U.S. (his version being the one I knew of first), and Young from Australia. I'm not sure who claimed the other one had copied first, but I believe there was a very short difference in release timing, and both gaining spreading popularity from their original markets outwards, their respective markets started colliding quite quickly, hence the trials. It seems both versions hit the charts in the U.S., but I was only aware of the Stevens' version for a long time...

"Savana" by Charingo (Ariola label studio group assembled by the team behind Jumbo 76) copied the structure of the beat 100% but you can hardly call that groovy semiobscurity a classic. But listen to LUISA FERNANDEZ, and the classically cheesy "Lay Love On Me" - the answer has got to be her ! :-)

I agree with Jussi (Although I think the title is "Lay Love On You"). I used to have such fun stringing together STANDING IN THE RAIN/LAY LOVE ON YOU/LOVE IS IN THE AIR by JOHN PAUL YOUNG/LUISA FERNANDEZ/MARTIN STEVENS, respectively. Cheap thrills!

on RadioioDisco, i play Hot Tracks versions of Jean Paul Young's "Lost In Your Love" and Martin Stevens' "Love Is in the Air," as well as Young's original of "Love Is in the Air." they're all pretty similar!

the one thing that Stevens had in his favor was an instrumental on the flip of his original Canadian 12". i believe the Hot Tracks version uses both the vocal and the instrumental.
