A friend of mine sent me this longer version and the difference is that instead of the song fading out and ending at 6:28, it keeps going for more than a minute longer, with more vocal ad-libs by Jean. Perhaps this longer version was the original acetate promo but they decided to "tighten" it up before pressing the 12" version? Although another disappointment was not including the 12" version of Jean's "What's On Your Mind", for me, this CD is worth every penny just for the 12" version of the Jones Girls "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else". |

When I was talking about the 6:28 version being the original one, I wasn't right at all I made a confusion with another 12" I have, one from the CBS Mixed masters series. The vinyl is from 1987 [4ZH 07834] and the B-side is «Breaking and entering» by Dee Dee Sharp Gamble. The label says that «Was that all it was» is 6:30 and that's the real timing of this song. This same version appears also on the 1999 cd «Philadelphia uncovered» [ZC 80126] and it's 6:28 ; the sleeve says «full length mix» which is obviously not. Now why those two versions ? And why the full length 7:44 version is not available on the «PIR 12" singles» cd ? Can't understand why... Anyway this is a really good cd with songs hard to find like «I'll never forget (my favourite disco)» or «You gonna make me love somebody else» by the Jones Girls. |

| I checked out my copy of The Futures 'Party Time Man' on 12". It looks like this CD used the LP version, because the 12" goes for about a minute and a half longer. I wondered why when I ripped the PIR 12" CD and then later the original LP on CD (Westside), and found the songs to be the same length. Arghh...that CD is turning out to have been a disaster. | I ended up getting and am fairly glad I did for the extended Teddy Pendergrass "Get down, Get funky" which was apparently renamed for this comp and is extended nicely as was Jerry Butler's "I'm just thinking about cooling out." Jocko Henderson's "Rocketship" was a lite-rap number with a jazzy arrangement that was rather original. The O'jays "Put our heads together" had instrumental was elongated instrumentally in the beginning and end. However the synths were really brought up into the mix and the vocals were buried in a similar remix/production style of DTrain. On the other hand, I found the Jones Girls "You're gonna make me love somebody else" to be dissappointing. There were abrupt shifts in various segments. I thought they could have just played the guitar and should have used a sparser arrangement for a break. |
