Although I'm excited by the prospect of an old classic being revived by this method and possibly gaining a few fans it never previously had, I do wish that modern producers would come up with their own riffs and hooks. That could be even more exciting...........or not. O.K. I'd love to see Gene Dozier & the United Front's - Give The Women What They Want incoporated into something, especially the rapid fire wah wah guitar intro. I've messed around with sampling that and speeding it up on my double CD player and it's interesting, to say the least. Another one that's got the potential (and I think may have already been used) is Oliver Sain's - Bus Stop. This has soooo many elements, I'd have thought it's a sampler's dream. |

It vanished from night-clubs here in Rio in favour of indie rock, hip-hop/rap, awful domestic funk/rap and pagode (a type of samba). There were 2 very good dance-stores in Copacabana (FLASH and WORLD MUSIC) which unfortunately closed the doors recently. They sold new releases, 12 inches and some old stuff. In the 90's there were hundreds of those stores. Even the megastores MODERN SOUND, SARAIVA and FNAC have reduced drastically their dance/house/techno section. The lounge/chill-out is almost gone. |

a) it wouldn't be anything new and b) only in the best-case scenario would it probably be as good as the original. At worst it's just streamlined, soulless house with a heavier bass drum. Yes, al least there's still new releases coming out.

| none. disco is fine as it is, perhaps a little re editing and remastering for todays soundsystems would be fine, unless your playing on a rig designed for 70s and 80s records. new disco is still being made. check Flexx Mail Order - Record Shop - Electro, Disco, Italo, House, Techno, Cosmic, Balearic, Edits online store house was good until the mid 90s when the disco filter house shit was a craze, and every lame us vocalist was singing cover versions of disco songs.. whats the matter? imagination and lyrics died with disco too? house was good 88->92 especially chicago and new york classic garage. i.e frankie knuckles, steve silk hurley, timmy regisford, boyd jarvis, robert owens, colonel abrhams, blaze, smack productions, paul simpson, mr fingers, jamie principle, trax records, island records, dj international etc. |

| I disagree with that. That classic house era gave us some top records but to say there's no good house today just ain't true. Metro area and Lindstrom for example make quality modern day electronic disco music. I hate to say the next name cos it is a total cliche but Moodyman does make pretty interesting house records. I agree that there's a load of shite commercial house though - having said that there was a load of shite commercial disco. |

| lindstrom and metro area aren't house music. hans peter did house/crossover music under the name "slow supreme" circa 2001. you should see that i already know about this music giving a link to FLEXX records in my previous post. there is good house music from 90->now but its in drips and drabs. the era's i mentioned were in my own opinion the golden eras for house music. |

| There are some good current House records around but the current House sound is a heavy bass electronic production. House really peaked about 1997. In the 90's you lots of great vocal stuff which borrowed heavily of Disco. As for having a favourite song given a house treatment it's already been done with "Bourgie Bourgie " "It Seem To Hang On" "I feel Love" "Get Another Love" & "Caught Up In A One Night Love Affair". |

| "Boogie Down And Mess Around" by Blackwell I agree with the other posters. I don't like to hear the original arrangements stripped out of vintage tracks. And I'm tired of uninspired remakes. But there are some older tunes that have a "muddy" sound. And it would be interesting to hear them freshened up. I always liked/hated this Blackwell song. It was sluggish. The lyrics were silly. Yet the vocals were fun to listen to, especially the verses. The chorus was out of control (yet memorable.) So I wouldn't have any qualms about a "Boogie Down And Mess Around" makeover. It could breathe new life into the song. So I would save the house remixes for the marginal songs. But don't go overboard.

| I've always wished for a good soulful, dance cover or solid remix of Booker T and MGs Time Is Tight. The subtle energy of this song builds so nicely that I could see it filling a dancefloor and slowly create that quiet excitement that a good dance instrumental can do. |

I think if you are going to remake an old track you should leave the classics alone. Whats the point of making a new version unless its better than the original and if you try and remake genius then its not going to be. Most DJs are lazy and would rather play quantised new versions cos of thier obsession with mixing. However, top class jocks like Chris Dukinfield will quite easily mix in old disco. There is alot of naff disco out their however, and the true test is to take a sample from a crap record and make it into a gem. That said, The Buckethead's Bomb from Streetplayer is a work of genius. Before the whole disco house thing took off and evolved into cheap funky house, the remakes were just a nod to the music from which house came, and thats fair play I think. Its pretty much the whole hip hop sampling soul debate but for disco and house. |

Did you know The Clash recorded a version? It's in his B-sides album, I think it's Black Market Clash.

| I agree 100% with Passaro. What is today remained from music that was coined "House", is mostly metronomic stripped-down electronic -do it yourself- garbage IMO. Especially those Rip-offs ( quasi Disco-House ) with moronic ad nauseam repeating of sampled riffs and phrases. However, there are still good new dance tracks around. Anyone considering "remixing" of an old disco music is most probably searching for cheap way to achieve a litlle bit of fame trough abuse of some old, well proved grooves. Sorry, you better make some good ORIGINAL music instead. This music all sounds the same to me - all synth beats with some conga percussion and hissing hi-hats, everything underlined with some sampled bass line. Please - and it is all formulaic made with some 128 to 130 BPM - alowing every DJ to perfect beat match without big effort... Here some of old Disco/Garage classics, that I consider goood dance muzac; Barbara Roy - Gotta see you tonight (12" dub version) Nu Shooz - I can't wait 12" Fantasy - You're too late 12" Janice Christie - Heat Stroke 12" Gino Soccio - Try it out 12" Suzy Q - Get on up and do it again 12" Gene Dunlap - Take my love Juggy Jones - Inside America 12" Anikana O - Kongas ( Tom Moulton 12" mix) Pennye Ford - Change Your wicked ways 12" Don Armandos - Deputy of love 12" Surface - Falling in love 12" Komikko - Feel alright 12" Taana Gardner - Heartbeat 12" Loose Joints - Is it all over my face 12" Gwen Guthrie - Padlock Gwen Guthrie - It should have been You 12" Candido - Jingo Nuance feat Vikki - Love ride 12" Melba Moore - Love's comin' At Ya Inner Life - Moment of My Life 12" Loleatta Holloway - We're getting Stronger ( The longer we stay together) ...and whole bunch of others from the era. Diversity, Funkiness, Soulfulness - THAT is feeling that makes me groove ! ALBATROS |

I just bought Danny Krivit's Defected In The House and it is not like that at all. The music is HOUSE (of course) and apart from some songs from the classic era, all the others are new (from 2004 onwards)... they are very well played with a lot of piano, keyboards, sax, brass arrangements, very good vocals... ...not that computer-looped-thing repeated to death. In the same vein is Dimitri From Paris' IN THE HOUSE OF LOVE. Apart from the excelent 70's DISCO tracks, the HOUSE tracks are outstanding. What I like about Danny and Dimitri is that they usually never pick up the metronomic-electronic-garbage. |
