There's a movie called Some Like it Hot (USA) with Toni Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe from 1959 where the disco ball appears when the female star - Marilyn Monroe - is singing boo-oop-a-doop.

What are now called "disco balls" were first used in nightclubs in the 1920's. An early example can be seen in the nightclub sequence of Berlin: Die Sinfonie der Großstadt, a German silent film from 1927
