Default Buried Treasure? Loc-It-Up by Leprechaun

Leprechaun Loc-It-Up

I got this record from a record pool in South Florida. I think it was 1980.

I love Loc-It-Up, but the audience didn't.

I have always kept it for my own collection, but never saw anything put out commercially by them.

I am posting a sample for Loc-It-Up and the flipside, Party Freaks.

Also, pics of the label.

Do you like it? Did anyone play it? Do you know anything about it?

Thumbs up Re: Buried Treasure? Loc-It-Up by Leprechaun

Ok, I've only gotten through the first 20 seconds, That's HOT! (Loc-It-Up) fits in nicely with all that mellow mid tempo R&B that would be dominating the early 80's, like Radiance, Intrigue, Windjammer, Change, etc.

Ok, let's give the flip side a listen......

Alright, a bit more on the funky side, but still nice, I'd play them both. (which I plan to do as soon as I can sniff out a copy from somewhere....)

You can find this 12 inch on ebay for cheap, but sometimes it's not there.

I believe it only came down through DJ pools and there are not alot out there.

But so few know it, that it is attainable.

I always picture it being on the Solar label.

Glad you like it.

Here's a different version I found on ebay. I never knew this existed either.

eBay: NIGHTLIFE loc it up PRIVATE MODERN SOUL LISTEN !!!! (item 110047190982 end time Nov-22-06 04:57:59 PST)

It says you can listen, but I don't hear it.

I think your secret might be out online prices (that I just saw) are ranging from $39 - $114, but I'm sure I'll catch it somewhere as a matter of fact, I'll be checking out a flea market this coming weekend-cause the word is, there's a few crates of records in need of some attention there...

hi qdearl and needlefingers,

i don't remember hearing or hearing about it when it was new, but i was turned on to it a few years ago. i bought it for $20 or $25 in a store after being repeatedly outbid on ebay. it was never a hit, but it's not a secret!

you can hear "loc-it-up" on my 24/7 internet disco radio station, RadioioDisco.

take care,

I think there was a UK 12" released Tony. I do recall this track from BITD as it were. It was quite popular on the soul scene. I have it on a double LP compilation of Red Bus, Excalibur, and R&B Records releases from about '18 and '82.

I have found some more history about this record.

On Gemm it is as high as $216 for the Citation version.

It did have a release in the UK and it is available as a 7 or 12 inch on Excalibur records. It also was better received there.

Here is some information about the Nightlife version of Loc-It-Up.

Translated version of http://www.studio530.com/recommend/r_nightlife.html

If any of you have a sample, I know I would like to hear it.

Also, there is another compilation that it is on.
Various - Disconnections

Buckaroo, is this the same compilation?

Here is another website/message board discussing the song.

This a good record? - Forums

Thanks for sharing Needlefingers .

I've given it several listens ......

Starts off most promising ... always love piano . Chic- like . Then SOLAR over all .
The soft vocals work at first ..... then sort of get lost as it goes on ... strings and especialy the horns so recessed (?)
Great bass groove . A jarring edit into the break ..... & nothing new introduced within it .
Song sort of strolls along . Since I prefer tunes that are aggressive , this one seems rather timid. A nice morning music bridge number ..... ..... I'd keep twirling the fans to it ....

The effort here sounds like an honest & sincere one. I can't say it takes me somewhere I've never been before though .
Thumbs marginally up on this one ...

I agree on a lot your points remicks.

It needed better mixing and parts are of it are way back. Even the sax hook is up front in one section and then recessed in another. Uneven in the mixing.

And as I said, it does sound Solar. I was also going to mention it as morning music, but I've seen that thread before.

I read that the Gene Redd Jr., who produced it, is Sharon Redd's brother.

And I think I have seen only one other record on the Citation label.

But it is a buried treasure, lost underneath the glut of those acts that qdearl mentioned along with club/radio friendly artists like The Whispers, Shalamar, Cherelle, Stephanie Mills, Evelyn "Champange" King, Midnight Star,.....

And looking at the price it can go for today gives my treasure more pleasure.
