| This past Friday @ Ringside, I had a '70's soul vibe going on. Cool atmosphere with Halloween happening last week so everything was in the flow with some of the following just a few of the classics that were played: Freddie's dead - Curtis Mayfield Get up and get down - The Dramatics Inner city blues - Marvin Gaye Me and baby brother - War Think - Lyn Collins Tell me something good - Rufus w/Chaka Khan Dance wit me - Rufus w/Chaka Khan I get lifted - K.C. and The Sunshine Band I don't know if it's right - Evelyn 'Champagne' King I'm every woman - Chaka Khan On the soft and smooth side, some of the classics played were, The sweetest pain - Dexter Wansel Brandy - The O'jay's Suavecito - Malo I wanna get next to you - Rose Royce Hope some good memories were stirred with these. I know it was cool playing and listening to them. 8) As always, Easy, Sam "ALL JAM" |

| Good memories indeed, Sammy! :D Like your Rufus and Chaka Khan records! Especially I'm Every Woman! That War track has always been popular with my old soul crowd ...guaranteed to fill the floor!... Marvin Gaye ... tasty!! I must go and dig out that Curtis Mayfield track... I always loved that Dexter Wansell track - the "Sweetest Pain"... A nice selection! :D

| Jazz: Thanks for you comments on the list. Sorry I haven't been posting on the challenge that much, been busy like you. However, I'm ready to throw some 'J'abs with my 'J's. Before I do, unfortunately for me I knew none off your last entry. Forunately for me, it gives me loads of new good music to pursue. :P Now onto the 'J's: Joy - Isaac Hayes (The Black Moses from the early '70's on the souls/jazz/funk tip) Jungle Plum - Jerry Gonzales and The Fort Apache Band (Latin Jazz/Soul flavor) Joyous - Pleasure (No comment necessary) Just the two of us - Grover Washington, Jr. (A bonus track) on the 'K'iller side of 'K's I only have two: Kalimba song - Bobby Caldwell King Tut - Paul Hardcastle (I love all this guy's stuff, especially today) That should hold you back, for now anyway. I need to start working on my 'L's so off I go. Easy, Sam "ALL JAM" |

| Looks like we can get one round in today at least ... I know three of your J's - I left Joyous for you as I know you love it! Just The Two of Us - a bit of a classic that is still played a hell of a lot. There aren't many jazz records that cross over to the mainstream - that was one of 'em! Joy - Isaac Hayes - another good track. Didn't now your other J or your k's. BTW I will try to go on the web at home this evening and I will then comment on my last round. Busy, busy, busy! Onto my entries. I found K's hard but L's very easy! I have two K's: Killer Joe - Benny Golson Kool Jazz - Kool and the Gang - the whole damn album!!! Love Is Like A Samba - David Benoit Little Sunflower - Freddie Hubbard Latin America - Cedar Walton Hope you like that lot!! :D

| Sammy-- "I Wanna Get Next To You" by Rose Royce is a favorite 1977 song of mine!! "Suavecito" by Malo is one of my mother's favorite songs!! She was able to get the full-length version off of Audio Galaxy. "Dance Wit Me" by Rufus/Chaka Khan is one of those songs by them that you never hear anymore. In fact, the last time I heard it was on one of the "In Yo' Face!" funk CD compilations, and that was almost a decade ago. "I'm Every Woman" by Chaka Khan is another fave of mine and I don't think you can go wrong with Evelyn "Champagne" King's "I Don't Know If It's Right". I didn't know KC/Sunshine Band did a version of "I Get Lifted". The only version of that I know is by George McCrae. Nice list. :)

| Zeca and Robbie: Thanks so much for the comments; Glad you guys like these songs also. Zeca, if you showed up in person @ Larry Holmes Ringside, it would definitely turn into a party. Robbie, I have a couple of those 'In yo' face' funk compilations from the early '90's. It was a great series indeed. I'm happy to hear your mother is diggin' 'Suavecito' from her days, but what does that say about me. Easy, Sam "ALL JAM" |

| Jazz: Once again you stumped me with some true Jazz movers; :-? It's okay though, that's why I'm diggin' this challenge to learn about some new stuff. I'm ready this morning with my next round. Some stuff that was definitely rockin' the dancefloors in the '70's but definitely were jazz influenced. Check these out: Lovely day - Bill Withers (An all-time favorite of mine; Wasn't that from your favorite year of '77 or was it '78?) Let's get it together - El Coco (A laid back disco classic definitely influenced by the classic jazz sound) and on the M&M side: Midnight after dark - Roy Ayers Ubiquity Starbooty (Another '77 jazz funker for the Jazzman) More Hot fun - Stanley Clarke (This one was killer in '78 and played alot by me) Well, I couldn't wait to get those in. Curious to see what you think. I'll start working on my next round right away. Easy, Sam "ALL JAM" |

| Jazz: I know you've been too busy to reply to my last round, but in the interim I've got a couple of more M&M's to add to the list; Mysteries of the world - MFSB (One of my all-time faves) Mardi gras - Bob James (a favorite among the hip-hop crowd) Sorry if I took any of yours, just wanted to add to the on-going battle so you don't think I forgot about you. | After a long break - I'm back on the challenge! :D Things have finally eased up at work.. (famous last words!) Commenting on your last entries: Lovely Day - an all-time classic of course! Let's Get It Together, you will be happy to hear, was one of those JP's classics, to which we all did a set dance to! A brilliant selection, Sammy! Midnight After Dark - by whom?? Oh yes! My all-time hero Roy Ayers! Classy! More Hot Fun - another jazzy funky fave of mine, I gotta admit! When was Stanley Clarke last mentioned on this Board? Mysteries Of The World - another excellent track which I love as well! You have obviously been doing your homework!! Now onto my long-awaited M's and N's! Mr Magic - Grover Washington Jnr - one of my all-time Grover faves! Truly uplifting jazz! Milestones - Miles Davis - I think it was voted as Jazz FM listeners' all-time Jazz #1 in the days before it started playing Smooth jazz ...It was very big with the soul crowd in the early Eighties, I remember .... Mi Sebrana Tequana - Ingrams - one of those obscure jazz fusion tunes that was a JP's top ten dance track! A very long, rambling and quite introverted piece of jazz fusion - but absolutely essential for us!! Definitely an acquired taste! Onto my N's: Number One - Patrice Rushen - from the same LP that spawned the massive Forget Me Nots New York City - Miroslav Vitous - incredibly rare and left field JP track but wonderful. The only track I ever downloaded from Audiogalaxy! Night Cruiser - Deodato - an excellent jazz-influenced disco tune from Deodato - was absolutely massive in Germany when I was over there! Hope ya like those Sammy! :)
