Default Inner Life - Make It Last Forever Remix - Vinyl exist?

Hi,
One of my favorite tracks is Inner Life's 'make it last forever' the remixed version by Mr Levan (12.56) that was i understand, never released back in i guess around 1979-80.

I know it was released in 1996 on a kind of reissue albulm of 'Larry Levan's Greatest Mixes Volume 2' (would love to know more info about volume one by the way). However i would like to know if there ever existed any promo 12's originally released back in 79'/80' and why it was never released?

Thanks
Damski

Hello Damski,

I don’t think Inner Life's “Make It Last Forever” came out on anything at the time and I’m not sure why it never got released, but personally I prefer the Donna McGhee version over the Inner Life version.

Another previously unreleased track which came out later was Inner Life's “Let’s Get This Thing Together” which I much prefer to the Universal Robot Band’s version.

If you like Inner Life's look out for the less well known “(Knock Out) Let’s Go Another Round” 12" Tee Scott mix which runs for 11+ mins.

It’s also worth checking out the Donna McGhee “Make It Last Forever” LP and the Rainbow Brown “Rainbow Brown” LP for some more Patrick Adam/Greg Carmichael/Stan Lucus productions.

Thanks for the tips Ashley, I wonder if you are thinking of the LP version that inner life released (which i can understand why you compare with the Donna Mghee version, the levan remix version is a deep dub version)

i will check out the 'Let’s Go Another Round'.

Would still love to know more about the levan remix version though and if anyone ever rembers it being played out at the time. i've been hoping a promo only 12" exists (i've been looking for quite a few years and was wondering if i should give up).

Cheers

I personally didn't recall any version of this song, the two Inner Life LPs I have with me don't have this cut.

which inner life Lp has the original Inner Life version???

Anyways , you can find your answer on Levan's remix on the CD's liner notes written by Francois Kavorkian.

Original Salsoul vinyl release

"You will also find here a never- released version of what had become another of the clubs all time faves , the classic anthem, "Make it last forever" by Inner Life..."

who knows why it wasn't released back then, Larry probably had an acetate or used a Reel Tape at the Garage.

I love this Levan mix , it is one of my recent year's discoveries, his version puts me in a a sort of 'trance' especially the second half, I always feels it is to short :-o:pI also only recently discovered and finally got the Donna McGhee CD, (never heard of her until the NET came along) her version is very good too, I especially love her sexy add-lip/moaning portions:p

I’m assuming the Levan remix version of “Make It Last Forever” you are talking about is the one that’s on Larry Levan’s “Paradise Garage” CD/LP which is “Larry Levan’s Greatest Mixes Volume 2” plus the bonus cut “Make It Last Forever”.
I have to be honest I haven’t listened to that long version for some time, I usually end up hearing the 7+min version from the “Inner Life” LP (although I normally skip over this version when listening to the CD of the LP).

Perhaps I need to give the Levan remix version another chance, when the unreleased version came out I probably dismissed it a bit to quickly in favor of the Donna McGhee version which I’m more used to, I love Jocelyn Brown’s vocals etc., but I think that Donna McGhee’s smother vocals suit the song better.

For me personally I think some songs work for vocalists better than others, for example I’m a big fan of the great Leroy Burgess but I don’t like his vocals on High Frequency’s “Summertime” for me they just don’t work as well as the version of “Summertime” with Curtis Hairston on vocals.

As for a 12" promo of “Make It Last Forever” remix – I think one would have come up for sale or been listed by now if one had been issued, I’d give up looking and just add it to the list of tracks that you wish had been issued on 12", but on the other hand if you happen to turn up a box full of promos – please save one for me.

i did go to the garage and never personally heard it there BUT i remember that a friend of mine who "lived" at the garage LOVED larry's loooooong and oh-so-sensual mix of the inner life version that she would hear only there. it was one of his signatures, and it wouldn't surprise me if he was the only one who had that particular mix.

many tracks that larry mixed went through several incarnations before they were released and most of the alternate versions still haven't seen the light of day. that particular one wasn't released on 12" and only surfaced on the various salsoul reissues.

I checked this LP cover online, and I don't recall this Album:-o, It looks like I only used the "Aint no mountain.." 12" at the time. I need to check before picking up that CD, although "Let's go another round " sounds really familiar.:???:

Thanks for the info! I think i will give up looking for the vinyl, although i cant help thinking that the remix version is such an awesome track i just mistifies me why it was never released, surely many of the DJ's of the time would have been begging salsoul and the record pools for a vinyl version.

I have had a look at the Kavorkian's notes on the reissue version and he doesnt seem to say anything about the bonus track 'Make it last forever' (i have the vinyl copy so there might be some additional content on the CD i will double check next time in a record shop)

Does anyone know what happend to Volume 1? I have never seen a copy of this and wonder if it was ever released. It maybe that volume one is the 'Disco Madness' compilation of Walter Gibbons remixes but i'm just guessing at this.
:)
