| While researching an old 45 from 1976 I have by Jimmy Briscoe &The Little Beavers "You're My Love,My Life,My Soul" I came across this. from Allmusic; "When Finch joined they dropped the Little and became Jimmy Briscoe & the Beavers. They cut the rousing disco tune "Invitation to the World" on Wanderick records in 1977; Kyser did a licensing deal with TK Records, but the additional clout didn't make the record take off as expected. " Can anybody shed any light on this record as I've never seen it mentioned let alone heard it.

do you mean the 12" or album?? Jimmy Briscoe & The Beavers did this album including 'invitation to the world'. It is the best track on the album, really. I was never that crazy about the tune that much to play it more than once.. it doesn't really stand out enough. The sound is very Philly influenced, like Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes...but without the production by Gamble & Huff and really good songs. The album is from 1977 and it's on Waverick indeed. There's also a 12" of 'invitation to the world' that was released on Salsoul Records, I've seen it once on eBay and it was very much in demand.... I don't know the 45 you have, is it any good?? Which label is it on? |

| Thanks All That Glitters for the info. The 45 I have is on the Pi Kappa label and was distributed through Buddah Records. It's a real slow R&B/Soul groove in a Stylistics vein. It's allright but unimpressive.

Here is AMG's Bio: by Andrew Hamilton Jimmy Briscoe, Stanford Stansberry, Kevin Barnes, Maurice Pulley, and Robert Makins were the original Jimmy Briscoe & the Little Beavers. Bobby Finch replaced Makins in 1977. The Jersey City, NJ-based group debuted with a version of Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers' "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" on Atlantic Records the fall of 1971. Paul Kyser, their manager and mentor, produced the side and its flip, "Sugar Brown." Atlantic never issued anything else on them; their follow-up, "Together, Together (We'll Make a Way)," appeared on J City Records the following year. Six well-received releases — from 1973 to 1976 — followed on the Pi Kappa label, including local/regional favorites "My Ebony Princess," "Where Were You," and "I Only Feel This Way When I'm Near You." But nothing sold enough to merit an appearance on the nationally syndicated Soul Train television program. When Finch joined they dropped the "Little" and became Jimmy Briscoe & the Beavers. They cut the rousing disco cut "Invitation to the World" on Wanderick Records in 1977; Kyser did a licensing deal with TK Records, but the additional clout didn't make the record take off as expected. A final release, the spacy "Into the Milky Way," mixed by Bobby Guttadaro, bounced out on Salsoul Records the summer of 1979. When it didn't cause a stampede to record outlets, the group disbanded and pursued other endeavors. To people like me, who collect soul/R&B Ballads, these songs are essential when thowing a slowjam party:D Ebony Princess I Only Feel This Way When I'm With You I'll Care For You This was the age of the high tenor or falsetto male lead that was dominate of the day. The Stylistics, Delfonics, Black Ivory, Blue Magic, The Moments, the Montclairs, Switch, etc. all alumni of that sound.8)
