not sure but kind of looks like Evelyn Champagne King. if it is her she would only be about 13 there and i don't think she went professional until she was about 15 or 16.

it is a gardenia, if I am correct. As you may know, in the early days Sylvester used to perform in the grand tradition of Billie Holiday, the great blues singer who wore gardenias in her hair.

thanks for that info, You are correct ... I knew about the Billie Holiday period, but wasn't aware of the type of flower she wore.
