Default Disco hits in September/ October 1976?

I'm currently working on making a compilation of the disco hits around the time of September/ October 1976. It's supposed to be a gift for someone born around that time.

On the internet I only found a list of the no. 1 disco action hits but not the whole charts. The disco compilation consensus chart (and the first disco action chart) posted on these boards unfortunately end with August 1976.

So my question would be what was played at the discos back then?
It'd be great if you have suggestions on what may be too old already or what will be charting after August 28 until the end of October 1976.
Any help regarding this matter is appreciated.:-)

Below is a list of the titles from the disco action/ compilation consensus chart that I have access to.

No.1’s from the Disco Action Top 30 (for the months September + October 1976, as found on Wikipedia):
The Bee Gees: You Should Be Dancing
Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band: Cherchez La Femme/ Se Si Bon
Love Unlimited Orchestra: My Sweet Summer Suite
The Originals: Down To Love Town (the only song I found out about which wasn't already charted at the end of August)

Other titles listed on the "Disco Action Top 30" and/ or "Disco Compilation Consensus Top 40 +6" (as of August 28, 1976)
The Undisputed Truth: You + Me = Love
Candi Staton: Young Hearts Run Free/ Run To Me/ Destiny
Double Exposure: Every Man/ My Love Is Free/ Ten Percent
Andrea True Connection: More, More, More
The Salsoul Orchestra: Nice & Naasty
Camouflage: You’ve Got The Power
Lou Rawls: You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine
Trammps: That’s Where The Happy People Go
Rare Pleasure: Let Me Down Easy

Musiquelover, most of the records currently charting on the end of August, 1976 chart will be around through September and into October...

Coming down the pipeline are a few others:

Down To Love Town - The Originals
Car Wash - Rose Royce
Calypso Breakdown - Ralph McDonald
Daylight - Vicki Sue Robinson
Soul Cha Cha - Van McCoy
Life Goes On - Faith, Hope & Charity
As, Another Star, I Wish, Sir Duke, Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder
That's The Trouble/ Sorry - Grace Jones
& around the end of Oct.: "Four Seasons Of Love" LP - Donna Summer

Definitely gonna be big in this time period:

My Sweet Summer Suite - Love Unlimted Orchesta
Midnight Love Affair - Carol Douglas
+ the currently charting titles by the Ritchie Family, Undisputed Truth, the Emotions, KC & the Sunshine Band & the Salsoul Orchestra.

Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band LP is just moving from the big U.S. cities across the country in September ( even San Francisco doesn't begin to chart it until mid-Sept.) and the Bee Gees You Should Be Dancing will be at the top for quite awhile--all of September--at least.

Regarding your initial list at the beginning of this post, drop most of the Andrea True Connection titles ["More, More, More" in particular] and the Trammps are on their last chart legs...trickling away during Sept.

Wild Cherry's Play That Funky Music & Brick's Dazz appeal to the middle states of the USA for a good long time...Wild Cherry is a hit now....Brick comes later
Oh and don't forget Makes You Blind - the Glitter Band...finally released in the USA on Arista...

Hope that helps.:-D

Thanks for all the help so far.:D

I decided to cut the tracks from the Trammps and Andrea True Connection from my list.

A few questions:
1. Is there anything else that should be cut as well from my initial list of songs for that time period?:-?
2. In case Candi Station and Double Exposure still qualify what would be the most appropriate song to choose from each of these artists?

I'm just wondering: was Stevie Wonder really popular at the discos at that time? Well, it would be great as I have "I Wish", "Sir Duke" and "Isn't She Lovely" on Stevie's "Original Musiquarium I" although I don't know which would qualify the best for my "project".

Absolutely !

By the time that building intro of I WISH transitioned into the actual song ..the floor was filled . And those horn blasts .....tailor made for working the lights .

That album .... so many cuts were played ..... it makes me think specifically of SF's OIL CAN HARRY'S ..... which was the city's premiere gay club at the time..... .....

This was also an album that made going to the clubs interesting ....because the DJ's were playing all the cuts on it that they chose to. So while the radio was slowly playing each new single one at a time ...we were hearing all these tunes well in advance of the typical release process . By the time these songs were scheduled for the radio ...the happy people going to clubs already knew them well ...

musiquelover,

Stevie Wonder is definitely gonna be big on the Billboard charts--it's still a relatively new release at the end of October--but most of the tracks (at least 4) will be in the Top 10 in November-December ...the highest ranked will be "Another Star."

Lose "Ten Percent" from your initial list. That has mostly peaked--it's just that the LP has been released and the other 2 tracks are being played--but the areas outside the big cities may still have a fondness for 'Ten Percent." Regarding Candi--"Young Hearts" is the classic---although it's been around for quite awhile now--it's the GOLD STANDARD of the 3 tracks--the other 2 being essentially rewrites of that song.

Camouflage & Rare Pleasure are minor hits....all the rest should all be in your compilation. I looked at the charts last night--it's pretty much exactly as I said....what's hot now will remain hot throughout that whole next 2 month period...."Four Seasons Of Love" will be charted by the end of October also...wasn't sure of the timeline on that one....have fun!!!

:D
