Default Disco group - Tantra - Hills of katmandu

I'd be interested to know, I love "The Hills Of Katmandu" and have two questions....

1) Is the 12" single any different from the LP version and if not, is it the full 16:20 or an edit.

2) I don't have the Double Album yet and am wondering given that Hills... is a favorite, what the rest of the album is like.

The original 12" version is the full 16 minute LP version. There are also remixes by Patrick Cowley and... uh... someone else that are slightly shorter.

I've heard three sides of the "Double Album". "Wishbone" is another side-long excursion, similar in concept. It's quite good, almost but not quite as trippy and/or catchy. This was the flip on the Italian Phillips LP release. The other two numbers (released as the b-sides to the US 12") didn't do much for me at all.

Hi:

the 12"-Single is definitive the album-version.
I know 6 different versions:
1. Original Mix by Jürgen Koppers (16:21)
2. Patrick Cowley Remix (13:27)
3. Underground Mix (14:00)
4. Ace Remix by Paul Goodyear & Mark Alsop (9:03)
5. Razormaid! Class-X Remix (8:58)
6. Atomic Mix (?) (6:xx)

Disconet has published a 13:02 min version on CD, this is but the 12"-version with blending (fade-out).

The "Original Mix" is the one and only !!!

my fave Tantra tune is "Top Shot"give it a listen sometime if u can..it is on the Double album / was a club hit and clocks in at 7:23...and also on 'The Double Remix" at 6:50. The Double album has liner notes from Brain Chin, "Discoteque Editor" of Record World Magazine that goes on to say that Celso Valli's 2 other projects were Passengers and Macho.

I really like the 'Mother Africa/Hallelujah/Get Happy' medley; it's not as trippy or captivating as 'Hills' but I always find it uplifting & it cheers me up if I'm feeling down.

I like "The Double Album" a lot. It has lots of percussion and chants and my copy of the album is almost CD quality (at least to my ears). By the way, I found a similar double album released by the same record company and with almost the same sleeve design! If anyone wants more info I'll go dig it out....I assumed it would sound similar to the "Double Album" and I was so anxious to hear it that I bought it without actually looking at the records first. When I got it home, inside were 2 copies of the same album...I'm still glad I bought it, though....

Id agree with that, Wishbone is a great record. A place called tarot is another one worth checking out.

Top shot is decent but nowhere near as good as the others mentioned IMO

The FULL REAL Cowley remix is actually 14:25 (and was never released). It was pressed up by Cowley himself on only a few acetates.

The one that people know as the Cowley mix is really nothing more than just the blueprint for his actual mix. If you notice, its nothing but a boaring reedit with some phasing thrown in. None of his synths were laid over yet. This was found after he passed and they marketed it as his mix.
