| The "1 Hit Wonder" threads from 2 years ago were created to provide lists. I gave the "best known" track + the video (YouTube was starting up BITD) ("Ain't nothing going on but the rent" was her big hit over here) and members came in and gave the lists of other tracks that were successful. That was the idea behind it. No more no less, thats why there's a question mark on those topics. Now, digging this up 2 years later and then point out that I can't do research (the vault, Discogs, wikipedia and many others) is cheap, very cheap! |

I saw it as a new thread without tracking the correct origin date. I was not the one who "dug it up". That was a good 4 posts BEFORE me. But as I type this I think....2 years ago? What really changed? I never accused you of not being able to do the research- merely NOT doing it. At the time that is. I think. I still dont know how the facts eluded you 2 years ago? But it's all good right? In the end you know the importance of Gwen Guthrie. |

| Yes I know, Donald, but that series BITD, was talking about HITS, tracks that charted! Gwen has composed and sung a lot of awesome stuff but, over here, it didn't do anything. And by coming in and post, hey wait a minute, Gwen has released this and that and she's one of the greats: that's giving the proper credit to an artist that is considered by the general public as a 1 hit wonder! And that's the great result of a topic like this! And exactly that was the initial idea. If I would open a topic like that 2day, I would do it completely different! AMAZON ![]() 1. | two great post "RENT" cuts are Rockin' Chair (1988) and a cover of John Lennon's Watching The Wheels (1991) i think it's my fault that this thread has jumped back to page one, i have been a lurker for years and never posted. i just happen to search for a thread about Gwen and couldn't help but post. |

| These are the 2 tracks from that album of her which i've been playing on heavy rotation through the years, and it's a TRIP to see other fans of these jams, for real. Yeah, "Joyriders" is a slammin' composition/production by the team of Brian Alexander Morgan and Shelley Scruggs. The team produced for Johnny Kemp in the same year, and one year earlier they released 2 awesome singles themselves : And "Thrill Me" is in the good tradition of the Mtume-sound, with Aurra/Mtume-keyboardist Philip Field who wrote and produced the track. That bass-synth in there is seriously infectious ! Good news is that this album on which Deodato contributed too, is soon going to be released on a Japanese cd-pressing : Just For You [Limited Pressing] Gwen Guthrie Catalog No.: UICY-90991 Format: CD Release Date: 2008/07/23 Price: 1524yen (1600yen Tax incl.) [US$ 13.98] Just for You @ Amazon Just for You @ Amazon.co.uk Worth to check is Gwen's recording-debut with the group East Coast, on Encounter Records in 1973 : http://www.popsike.com/php/detaildat...r=330180492623 The group was formed by Larry Blackmon from Cameo, and Cameo-keyboardist Gregory Johnson was also part of it. Soon after that album they formed Cameo. We miss ya Gwen Peace... Last edited by Bernie; June 21st, 2008 at 05:32 PM. |

| Not to forget "Say yeah" (1984) by the Limit on which Gwen Guthrie featured on vocals. |
