Default Yes! Eddie's Philly and David's Van McCoy LPs Are On CD!

Many of you guys are familiar with the Hip O Select line of CDs where classic LPs are being re-released in limited numbers. Well, check it out - Eddie Kendricks Vol.2 set, which includes the He's A Friend and Goin Up In Smoke LPs have been put onto CD! And even better, David Ruffin Vol.2 has been released, which features all of his Van McCoy produced LPs! Sadly, the Eddie Kendricks CD doesn't include the 12" remixes of Goin Up In Smoke and Born Again, which do differ from the LP mixes.

Good news/info !

Disco Funk, how is it you know all these variables in versions ... LP ... 45 ... CD ... 12" ...do you really have each format ? :-o It's mind boggling !!

Also ... somewhere along the way .... in a discussion includingTom Moulton .. .. I seem to remember you commenting that maybe Moulton fell out of favour with PIP after his (poor) mixing of a PIP Trammps LP.....

There was a PIP Trammps LP ???

Usually discovering an alternate mix is by accident. For example I had the Born Again 12" for a long time, but never really listened to it until I decided to get the Born Again LP. When I put the LP and 12" onto CD, I noticed the 12" was a different mix. With Goin Up In Smoke, I noticed that there was a CD version I bought which had a different mix - in the breakdown section towards the end on the 12" (and not on the LP), the drums are phased, just like in the breakdown of He's A Friend.

One album/session that featured a number of alternate mixes is the Faith Hope & Charity LP Life Goes On. If you check out my write up in the vault, you'll see that Life Goes On exists in at least 3 different long mixes - LP, 12" (David Todd), and 45. They're all very noticeably different from each other.

In general, though, I assume the 12"s were remixes of LP versions. Whenever I buy a 12" and discover its the exact same mix as the LP, I'm not very happy. :(

I was referring to the Disco Champs LP. It was a remix of the Trammps Golden Fleece LP. I think it was released in '77, probably to cash in on the popularity of Disco Inferno. I don't know for sure if he fell out of favor. I personally thought the remix album was very weak and made the songs worse, but I don't know if Gamble & Huff felt the same way. Its possible he started charging more for his services, and Gamble & Huff didn't want to pay anymore. Anyway, it was kind of a waste to have Tom Moulton mixing tracks at PIR, and not doing any 12" remixes. They only started remixing tracks for 12"s in '78, AFTER Tom Moulton stopped working for them.

I don't know. I've never had one. They're reasonably priced now. Check out the prices of the older items. They're much higher for the 2 CD and 3 CD sets.

I went to the website and its still has a pre-sale sign next to it. But I knew a volume 2 was forthcoming for both ex-Temptations. Thanks for the info as these are on my soon to buy list.8)
