Default Carol Jiani

Since the summer I have been in touch by e-mail with disco/HINRG diva Carol Jiani. She is currently resident here in the UK and is very busy at the moment promoting the 2006 remixes of her classic club smash "Hit n Run Lover".. I am going to ask Carol if she could possibly find the time to come onto the forum to answer some questions..
Will keep you posted on developments.

Neil

'Hit N' Run Lover' in it's original version is one of the defining Disco/ Hi NRG records for me...what a stormer and one of those that kept me dancing for years. Still stirs me to this day. Driving power without too much pace, great song and wonderful soulful Diva vocals from Carol.
Along with the classics like Loletta Holloways tracks on Salsoul and Goldmind, Barabara Penningtons '24 Hours A Day' , Jean Carns 'Was That All It Was' and The Two Tons 'Got The Feeling' it just about sums up what is utterly fantastic about a Disco record with a great soulful female vocal over a storming dance beat.

Doesn't anyone like Mercy. I think that song is a killer. And it was played in every aerobics and dance class.

I do like (a lot) Hit-N-Run Lover. But I never cared for the MDR version. It's like they were trying to imitate Patrick Cowley. But badly.

Are the 2006 mixes out?

Hit & Run Lover is one of my favourite records of all-time but i can't say I've liked anything by her since.:???: I s'pose her version of 'Ask Me' from '82 was OK but nothing special IMO.

Needle,

Good observation on the MDR version sounding like a bad Cowley imitation since "MDR" stands for Moby Dick Remix, which is the record label out of San Francisco it stands to make sense.

There are two other versions:
1. The Canadian 12 inch on Matra, which begins with the cowbells in the intro and is the best version by far. The flip has the MDR version.
2. The original version, which sounds very muffled and is available on a Moby Dick gold label 12 inch. The flip on this also has the MDR version.

The 2006 remixes are currently available on Import from Germany. You can buy it on amazon/ebay etc... Some interesting/modern remixes for todays dancefloors.

I also have a 12 inch release of Hit 'N Run Lover on Ariola Records. It is the original version (8:10 w/ cowbells). Flipside is All The People Of The World (7:51).

And I also have a 12 inch extended version of Mercy on Moby Dick Records. It chimes in at 8:05, as compared to the lp version at 6:34.

It is the B-side of The Woman In Me (6:34).

And FYI, Pete Bellotte, along with Lavay(?), wrote Mercy.8)
