| I got my RtP package yesterday....what a truly wonderful set of music! The amount of thought, effort and creative energy that went into this presentation of the way it was just blows my mind. And the perfect sound quality is an extra bonus! My question is just how long did it take Jerry to create this 6 hour set of smoothly-transitioned display of soulful disco? The mixes are spot on....many that are layered with such finesse and beauty. I can well imagine the hoots, hollers and cheers of approval that night as each song progressed into the next. I counted about 120 tracks in total on the 7 cds with about 50 songs that I had never heard or was even aware of which only makes this even better! Interestingly enough, my favourite cds out of the bunch are the warm-up (cd 1) and the end of the night (cd 7)....this is usually where any dj has the opportunity to be a bit more creative in song choices and segues. I wish I had been there. I wanted to go but the timing and expense just didn't allow it to happen. Hopefully next time! |

Discokicks, I so agree with your great comments! Btw, I'm sure it was just a typo but the set lasts for 9 wonderful hours - we were there from 6:30 pm to 3:30 am (and many wished it was for more!). As for how much time Jerry took to prepare the evening's program, well you could say he's been working on it for decades. If you'll check his biography in the DJ section of this site, you'll see that Jerry started spinning back in the 70s on the East Coast. I would imagine he remembered what worked and what didn't and then built upon that knowledge to create what we've heard at the past three RtP events! I know I've said it before, but we are sooooooo lucky to have had him and Robbie Leslie as the DJs for the RtPs!!! Hope you and Eman are able to attend if there are future RtPs! |

The only way I can describe Jerry's mixing is, as I've previously mentioned, smooooothh. He uses a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Have you had a chance to check out the clips I posted on YouTube? You can hear a very small sampling of what we heard at RtP 5. Plus, there's a 10 minute sound clip on the www.remembertheparty.com website. Who was the better mixer? Well, I have to say each has his own great style. It's hard for me to compare since I like all three of them! Finally, I asked Greg, one of the coowners of Medium Rare Music, your questions. He said they do indeed ship worldwide. They accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express but, unfortunately, the store doesn't accept PayPal. I would suggest Emailing them at mediumraremusic@aol.com to obtain more info, or if you prefer, you can call them at 415-255-7273 or fax them at 415-255-7274. |

| I've heard both Viteretti's and Bonham's styles on cds, incidentally both recorded from Trocadero gigs. If you think the night as a ride to Action Satisfaction, Jerry is a sleek Lamborghini, while Viteretti is a...Ford? Both are good and will take you where you want to go, only the ride will different, and so will the scenery. Take the Lamborghini. |

..... I think the two are quite hard to compare against each other since there are two entirely different forms of presentation being respresented ....one is a pre planned single event using time honoured proven winners.... the other a nightly challenge of weaving together the yesterdays todays and tomorrows... Using SF modems of transportation .....one is a smooth Bart Ride ... the other a clammering Cable Car .....I enjoyed both but there's something about the wind against my face and hanging on tight while rounding those sharp corners .... .. ****

Otherwise, I take my hat off to Mr. B. Playing lotsa records people actually know........what an outrageous idea!!! Could he actually be a proper DJ? |

| With his mixing and orchestrating skills he can obviously make any familiar track sound incredible, whereas lesser talents (like me) often have to resort to obscurities to make an effect, as if to scream listen to this, an instrumental version of an ultra rare French test pressing!!! |

Time between the events and the release of the CDs is due to Jerry getting the sets professionally manufactured. That means filling in the gaps, putting track markers for each song, getting the artwork ready for the packaging (one of our producers works on that part so there are also coordination issues), then having the CDs and labels manufactured and assembled, and the whole thing shipped to Medium Rare Music for sale. Considering all of that work, the time between the event and release isn't long at all. BTW, at the first Remember the Party, we originally didn't have any intention of selling the CDs. We simply wanted to have a remembrance of the evening. Robbie Leslie then decided to release the set for sale. When Jerry took over as the DJ for our third party, he allowed us to continue recording and then he surprised us by making the effort to fill in the gaps. He then made the decision to make the sets affordable so that many of those wanting to relive the Trocadero experience could do so! Finally, don't forget the whole purpose of the events - they are tributes to a time we hold so dear at the Trocadero Transfer. The producers, and our DJs, want the music to be as authentic as possible to the era! Can you imagine how thrilled we've been that the events have been so well received that we are up to RtP 5??? Hopefully more! |

| Found out yesterday evening at a holiday party that Medium Rare Music does indeed take PayPal. If you call or Email them, Michael, another co-owner of the store, can assist you with purchases via PayPal. Also, the store is currently SOLD OUT of the RtP 5 sets! We're amazed that the set has moved this fast. I understand there's one more shipment on the way to the store, but that might be it. Just a "heads up." |

| Keef, great stuff on those lists. I've heard some Bonham tapes and he really is my guy. Excellent mixing skills, very good and varied choice of tracks and it's a feast to read in this thread that the magic is kept alive. Quinny, I'd love to here some of your work. Can you put 'em online? I think we all can learn a lot from you! |

| Well, from all the comments, it looks like 25 years in the biz have made Mr. B's mixing fautless. Something NO jock BITD could have alluded to. I'm perfectly willing to accept that Mr. B is a damned fine DJ and a very good mixer and that my own talent is most probably less than his, but........ It's all down to the varying tempii. With the best will in the world, the highest degree of dedication and oodles of talent, the perfect mixing of records from the Disco era ('74-'81) was a real mutha to achieve time and time again, especially with all the interuptions and sheer concentration needed after just a few hours work, when brains became frazzled and ears became tired from exposure to several thousand watts of bass heavy sound and deceived the DJ. It's not as if we didn't know the fundamentals of good mixing back then, but I challenge anyone to say that they could mix records perfectly/better prior to electronic drums being de rigeur and even then, in the early days, records with electronic beats weren't absolutely in time, due to poor edits, overheating of equipment leading to time drift, etc. I wonder what's changed? |
