| Hey Remicks, I actually was filming the crowd's reaction when Jerry snuck Marvin in. However, that footage was filmed with my digital camcorder. So, I need to figure out how to put just a portion of the 60 minutes on YouTube. When the song came on, I knew I had to get a little clip on my digital camera (which is easy to download the short file to YouTube) just for you! :-D Dvdjamm, THANKS so much for your compliment about the recaps. It's nice to hear that I'm not boring everyone to death. I've been trying to let everybody know how well people still respond to this wonderful era of music! BTW, a little bird told me that the seven disc CD set from this evening should be at Medium Rare Music this weekend (if the shipment hasn't already arrived!). They are selling the set for only $49.99. Plus, the store is having a big anniversary sale with a 15% discount off of the regular price of their merchandise until November 15, 2006, INCLUDING this set! If you want to mail order, you can reach Medium Rare by phone at (415) 255-7273 or by Email at mediumraremusic@aol.com . I hope to have another chapter of my recap up soon! |

| Thanks Mark! Please be sure to tell me if my recaps get to be too much or too dull!!! :o Dvd, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Medium Rare is offering the 15% discount off this brand new set. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as me. So, let's start the weekend off with more of my recap. The assembly of disco fans was stoked and I wondered what Jerry was going to play to sustain the high? He did it perfectly by making them “High On Your Love”! Who knew The Jacksons would blend so well with Debbie Jacobs? Well, Jerry did because he found a part in the instrumentals of each song that fit perfectly together. An instrumental call and response. The dancers started their shouts of recognition. Remember how the breaks in Bohannon’s “Let’s Start The Dance” would put us into a FRENZY on the dancefloor? Caroline Crawford's vocals wailing “Everybody, get on up and dance!” over the guitars would build the excitement to a fervor. This evening was no exception. The song was just as strong as it was decades ago. People were screaming on the dancefloor for this song, then again on Antonia Rodriguez’s “La Bamba” – a HUGE Trocadero favorite. Although the song was overplayed back in Troc’s heyday, “La Bamba” sounded fresh and energetic all over again in 2006. I almost forgot to add that Jerry's little snippet of "Action '78" ("Ha ha ha") preceding "La Bamba" did alot to make you anxious to hear what was coming up. More Troc favorites with Love And Kisses ("La Bamba" going into the break from "I Found Love" - POWERFUL!) and Kelly Marie, but people stormed the dancefloor when Cher began warbling “Take Me Home.” JeffH and I were chatting when the song came on and he insisted we rush over to the edge of the dancefloor. Big mistake as several people nearly knocked me down as they ran to the dancefloor! Next Jerry played one of my favorite Melba Moore songs, “Pick Me Up, I’ll Dance” which never sounds the same at home. It’s another one of those songs that always sounds best on a BIG sound system. The same with the Margaret Reynolds's “All Day, All Night.” Margaret’s rich vocals, the screechy electronic noises, the background singers crooning, “Do do do doooo, do doo dooo” all combined to create a perky joyful feeling in the club. Jerry continued that feeling with “Block Party,” “Disco Kicks,” and Sylvester, Martha and Izora’s “(Dance) Disco Heat” Then it was time to space out the crowd, as always happened at Trocadero. You needed a set that would kick those disco vitamins into overdrive! However, this time Jerry didn’t use the usual set of songs that I knew as the usual “drug set!” After all, this was a party celebrating the “soulful disco groove!” He started the set by using two more songs from the Bay Area’s Fantasy Records catalog. First, Fever’s “Beat Of The Night.” Jerry darkened this song by reediting the song so the ladies continually sang, “In the beat of the niiiiighhhtt…” The gentle sounds of “Space Bass” moving in. The lights on the mirror balls were now in gold and purple colors. Fog filled the room while thin rays of white lights beamed down from the ceiling. The french horn sounds towards the end of “Space Bass” went on and on, creating a mysterious mood. Then, surprise! “Cocomotion” slowly moved in – Jerry was doing another one of his famous looong and expertly executed overlays. Beautiful! Busta Jones’s followed so that Jerry could make full use of the chorus, “Everybody’s dancing, dancing, all over the world.” Over and over, the girls singing, “Dancing, dancing, all over the world, everybody’s dancing, dancing…” YouTube - A 3rd moment from the Trocadero Transfer reunion This went on for a few minutes as Jerry floated Voyage’s lovely “From East To West” on top. Do I need to tell you the crowd was cheering again? Last edited by keefelc; November 5th, 2006 at 02:27 AM. |

| Hey Keefelc! I ordered my copy already!!! I'm so jazzed. I love your recaps and videos and in the words of Andrea True - "MORE, MORE, MORE":-D You are so right about Melba Moore's Pick Me Up and I'll Dance...Doesn't sound right at home and better at a club. I also find Cher's Take Me Home sounds better in a club also. Keep up the good work my friend!! Oh I did order a set for my other half...he's excited and said he's already got his dancin' shoes on...I wonder if he's worn down his favorite record already...A Little Lovin by The Raes...LOL |

I have certain memories filed in my disco hardrive that I will never forget.A certain song,or mix on that one night for whatever reason that created magic.Such is my memory of hearing this track the summer it was released. Have you ever been on the dancefloor and felt so much energy from the club that you thought you were a)having a heart attack b)reached nirvana c)having a sexless orgasm? Hearing Caroline's voice threatened spontaneous combustion on this dancefloor for me that night. | Gee Eman, I'm jazzed that you're jazzed! I hope Medium Rare rushes the CDs to you. You know, one of the special thing about the RtP events is that we get to hear songs like Melba just one more time in a club environment. I love Cher's "Take Me Home," but your chances of hearing that song in a club is infinitely better than Melba. Then to find out a packed roomful of people share your love of a song just makes you SO happy! Thom, I'm so glad you and the others are enjoying my recaps and I thank you for your kind comments! I'm not a writer so I've struggled to pick the right words. So, to know that you guys get the atmosphere and excitement I've tried to describe is a big relief to me! Your memory of Bohannon and Caroline was right on target! :-D That's the frenzy!! And it's so funny that you felt exactly the same way I did when I first heard "La Bamba" was planned for the evening. That's why I was amazed how much I enjoyed hearing it. A wonderful build up, a screaming and cheering crowd, a fantastic sound system, a fabulously lit room - makes everything right again!  |

| When you're done over here, you might want to take a peek at the www.remembertheparty.com website. TONS, and I mean tons, of photos from the RtP 5 event have just been added. Please note that many were taken with a flash, so the colors aren't accurate. The first couple of rows of photos are more representative of what the dancefloor looked like that night. However, the flash did show just how crowded the dancefloor became towards the middle of the evening - those pictures are toward the middle of the section. What else to look for? Well, our illustrious RadioioDisco DJ, Barry Walters, can be spotted in a couple of pictures. I also found Paul Parker in at least three of the pictures. Can you? There are also pictures of the mylar pom poms being raised in the air during "Can You Feel It." Oh! If you want a little audio sample from the evening, be sure to click on the option for the 10 minute music clip from the party. Remicks, I think you will really enjoy this sound clip!!! You can see from the photos that people of all ages, sexes, sizes and shapes were at the Party and having a good time! Hope these photos help you to visualize my recaps a little better! Have fun. I hope to have more of my recap later this week. Last edited by keefelc; November 6th, 2006 at 06:04 PM. |

| hey keefe, because of equipment upgrades on my station and a long voter line tuesday night, jim and i missed part of the pet shop boys' concert in sf, so as a consolation i broke out a bottle of wine, which we drained while listening to RadioioDisco and looking through ALL of the new RTP5 photos at http://www.remembertheparty.com/ the station and the photos did make a good match if i do say so myself! today i'm doing laundry and as i write this i'm hearing "love magic" on the RTP5 7-CD set. jerry's mixes and selections are as flawless as i remembered! incidently, jim was in a castro deli last night where a crazy person was hanging out and talking to anyone unlucky to be trapped in the store with him. of course jim's ears perked up when the crazy guy said, "i wish i could go back to the '70s when there was disco." then the guy went on to name many of sf's legendary clubs, which of course included the trocadero — he even name checked "bobby v." jim then asked him if he went to any of the RTP events, and the guy replied he hadn't but that he just saw the pet shop boys! thought you'd be amused! barry walters of radioioDisco. your world. your station. no boundaries. |

| When I visited San Francisco in 2000 I wore a Pet Shop Boys t-shirt one day & I constantly got stopped by people asking me where I got it which surprised me as I didn't think they were that big in the U.S., whereas nobody ever stops me in the U.K. where they always go top 10!

| Now Sandy, you ought to know that the PSB's would be big here in SF! And where did you get the t-shirt??? Barry, sounds like Jim encountered yet another person "Wrecked For Life" by the Trocadero Transfer!!! I finally had time write another recap. Here we go... Now it was time to bring everybody back from Space with a tune from Space. “My Love Is Music,” the other Trocadero favorite from their “Just Blue” album, lead the way to a set of soulful female vocals. Next, Jerry brought in Cognac’s “How High” and then followed with Evelyn King’s “Shame.” He told us to listen – the two songs are almost the same. He was right! I never noticed the similarities, especially the sax, until that night. As was the norm for the evening, the crowd totally got into “Shame” despite it still being played on the radio. Another song that just sounded “right” on a big club sound system with everybody cheering, blowing whistles and dancing!! Next, Martha and Izora’s wonderful “Earth Can Be Just Like Heaven” brought out the best in the light show. I always loved hearing their powerful vocals cut loose toward the end of the song. YouTube - A 4th moment from 2006's Trocadero Transfer disco party Jerry then surprised us with “Seabiscuit In The Fifth.” When’s the last time you’ve heard that cut in a club? Since the theme of this party was a disco groove, Jerry had to play “Shake Your Groove Thing.” The fun part of this song was that one of the people who brought tambourines let loose during the song. The sound resonated throughout the dancefloor and perfectly melded with the record, especially during the break. Lots of percussion instruments and whistles were brought to this party – always adding to the festive atmosphere! At this point, although still crowded, I thought the floor had thinned out a little. I found out people were just taking a little breather. They started drifting back with Isaac Hayes’s bass heavy (both instrumentally and vocally!) “Don’t Let Go.” Another one of those intense records that has to be heard on a big sound system to be fully appreciated! The floor was pretty packed again as the dancers welcomed with cheers another Trocadero favorite, the Boys Town Gang’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You.” You could hear people loudly singing along again. As a tribute to former Trocadero DJs, Jerry then mixed in the Hot Tracks remix of this song which featured, I believe, the vocodered vocals of Rob Kimbel and Steve Algozino as the Heaven Choir. As the song faded to it’s quiet end, the crowd broke into wild prolonged cheers and applause for Jerry!!! Hey, but no time for resting! Jerry brought in a piano intro which I immediately recognized as the first song I heard when I stepped into Trocadero for the very first time, Madleen Kane’s fierce “Forbidden Love.” I love the way this song always brings the crowd to cheers as the orchestra, Madleen and her singers build to the intense breaks singing, “Fire! Fire in your heart…” The mirror balls were bathed entirely in light, shooting off beams of bright red, then bright yellow lights through the fog enshrouded room. Then darkness before the strobes wildly lit the dancers. Next came one of my favorite mixes of the evening – Jerry did an almost 2 minute overlay of “Forbidden Love” with the equally powerful “High On Mad Mountain.” The two orchestra heavy songs matched and complimented each other splendidly. The crowd started screaming and yelling as they started hearing the opening notes of Lime’s “Your Love.” Those of you who know me know I’m not exactly partial to this tune. However, something from Lime finally had to be played at a RtP event. I have to say that Jerry made it quite bearable! First, he accented the instrumental sections then he mercifully pitched the vocals way down. Hey, Denise LaPage’s vocal didn’t pierce through my eardrums anymore. In fact, I have to say I was actually enjoying the song. As an added bonus, Jerry also mixed in a little bit of the fabulous break from Trax’s “The Mighty Crusader!” Last edited by keefelc; November 12th, 2006 at 01:28 AM. |

| Sorry for the long delay, but here's the latest chapter in my recap. Almost done! At this point, only about 3 more hours left for RtP5. Jerry didn’t have any time to waste so he hit the crowd with some big Troc favorites, mixing up the obvious with the not so obvious. For example, we were delighted when Jerry followed Cut Glass’s “Alive With Love” with Stephanie Mills’s “You Can Get Over.” I forgot how much I loved this forceful early hit of hers. Most of us still remember the fun of “The Break,” “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real),” and “Heaven Must Have Sent You,” but what about Peter Jacques Band’s “Walking On Music,” the Stylistics’ “Driving Me Wild” or Gonzalez’s “Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet”? The breaks in “Haven’t Stopped…” could still elicit howls of joy from the dancers! Speaking of Bonnie Pointer’s “Heaven Must Have Sent You,” this song motivated one of San Francisco’s favorite spokesperson for the LGBT community, Donna Sachet, to the front of the club’s stage. She then proceeded to give us an impromptu drag performance! Donna’s wonderful wit, knowledge and personality makes her a much in demand hostess for many of the community’s benefits and charities. She kindly made time in her busy schedule to attend our party, which was also a benefit. I have to mention that, per one of our producers, Miss Sachet arrived in a stunning long black coat that had a big collar similar to the cape the Evil Queen wore in Disney’s “Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs.” Because it was such a warm evening, she took off the dramatic coat much too soon. However, it was worth it for the gown she had on underneath. Wow!!! She wore a fabulous mirror ball gown just for our event! Every now and then, you would see her dress shimmering with the colors reflected from the mirror ball cluster. Ooooo pretty! Now’s a good time to mention just a few of the people I noticed in the crowd that night. Of course, Paul Parker and his partner, Ken, were there. I always get a kick when they greet me with “Aloha!” (Marky and I first met them when we were working at the record store). Have you spotted their photos at the RtP website yet? World famous DJ/remixer, Paul Goodyear (and his delightful wife, Wilma) and DJ Stephen Allkins made their way from London and Australia to join in the celebration of the Troc. Those three were on the dancefloor all night long (like so many others)! At one point of the evening, one of our producers was asked if “Mr. Gay San Francisco” was on the Guest List for the evening. Most of us all reacted in the same way, “Huh? There’s a Mr. Gay SF??!” Fortunately, we believed him because there was recently a front page article in the local gay newspaper confirming the info! There was also a gentleman dressed for most of the night in a splendid Captain’s coat in honor of Fleet Week in the City. At the start of the evening, he had his coat all buttoned up but as the evening progressed, those button became unbuttoned! Another guy was dressed like he just came from a power company repair crew complete with yellow hard hat, florescent vest and flashlight. No, I don’t know why. We also had another gentleman who wore an authentic Trocadero t-shirt which simply stated, “Hot To Troc!” Of course we had the beautiful custom made t-shirts our producers gave us which stated, “Get hip to the trip - The Trocadero Transfer. The ultimate experience in sound, light and space!” As with all past RtPs, we had the lovely Ms. Avis Marie to do card readings. We also had tables for the Stop Aids Project and Under One Roof. The Stop Aids Project boys had condoms & lube samples (perfect for the Raging Stallion porn stars! But back to the music! Remember I mentioned that two of the producers of the RtP events were the producers behind Bear Essense “The Big Hurt”? Well, after Two Man Sound’s “Capital Tropical,” there was an instrumental that most of us couldn’t identify. That’s because our producers took out of their vault an unreleased Bear Essense instrumental, “Anything For You” for Jerry to introduce during this party! NEXT: Morning music! |
