| I spent an hour in a local used record shop yesterday, and even though I didn't pick up 300 new LPs like Graham did last week * Beautiful Bend LP (sealed!) * Saint Tropez "Belle de Jour" LP (sealed!) * Unyque "Makes Me Higher" LP (sealed; exceptional sound quality!) * Invisible Man's Band "All Night Thing" 12-inch (sealed; I've seen this sell for big bucks on eBay) * John Davis and the Monster Orchestra "Up Jumped the Devil" LP * Paul Jabara "Keeping Time" and "The Third Album" LPs (It took me a few minutes, but I eventually realized that he reproduced the cover to Barbra's "Third Album" right down to the typeface! Such a queen!) * and from the '80s, Kim Wilde "You Came" 12-inch. I recall that in another post Bernie wrote about how much he liked Jabara's "Pleasure Island" because of the way the song builds to its climax. Until yesterday, I had heard only the edit on the Casablanca box set, but after listening to the full-length version I couldn't agree with Bernie more! The first two-thirds of the song are even BETTER than the last four minutes or so. That's all for now from this pea-brained punter...

| Jeffy is absolutely correct. Jabara totally copied the Babs 3rd LP cover. I recently bought this one, too. (Twice, in fact) DUH!! "Pleasure Island" is my favorite Jabara track. Funny cause I never really knew this track by name--although I must have danced to it, over the years. Keefe & I had a misunderstanding regarding a song ID on a Bobby V. tape on the 5:am website. I told him the song was "Paradise Island" by The Wonderland Band and he kept thinking of the Jabara song. Eventually, we came to an understanding about the 2 different "P. Island" songs. Also, at Troc I used to love dancing to "Love Is In You" by Nightlife Unlimited... my boyfriend alwys told me the name of that song was "The Island"--we could never find it...finally figured out what it really was...BUT now I realize he was confusing it with the Jabara song...at least that's my theory....WHY DO I REMEMBER THIS STUFF????? _________________ Make My Feet Wanna Dance! | I too got the 12" of All Night Thing by Invisible Mans Band recently & it was ultra cheap & in v.good condition ( Manchester has its's moments!). This is another example of that funkier disco post-79; the production on this track is excellent IMO.

| "Pleasure Island" has to be one of Jabara's best. I remember two guys I knew from just seeing them in the bars and clubs coming into The Anvil about 8:30 AM after being out all night at The Saint. One of them handed me a $20.00 bill and asked me to PLEEEZE play "Pleasure Island" for him. Well, you know that old saying... "Money talks, bullshit walks". That record was on the turntable in less than three mixes. JeffH, you and Graham are making me 'sick'. All these great finds. Yes, I have most of what you got but there's always something out there. I mean another copy of the John Davis lp or Saint Tropez would suit me just fine. Just imagine... no more snap, crackle, pop.

No wonder Disco died, the punters and DJs must have been permanently on speed, and we all know that Speed Kills (UK government car anti-speeding campaign slogan). |

They have a small disco section which is full of mainly dross but occasionally they have real gems; 2 weeks ago I got a Munich Machine LP there. 'Beat'n'Rhythm' in Tibb Street nearby also have lots of rare disco but unfortunately its mainly 7" singles (which they seem to import from the US.); however, their CD selection is excellent here & I've recently bought CDs by Eddie Kendricks, Linda Clifford & Jennifer Holliday in this fab little shop. I've got to stop visiting these places so often as my credit card's being used far too often! You must check out these shops Toto & we may bump into each other!
