I was wondering if anyone has the long version of Louie Ramirez's disco song "Salsa", because I really want to get this song on MP3 but Audio Galaxy doesn't have it? If anyone can help me out, please email me at ac_dc_rocks@hotmail.com

I have the song 0n a 45 RPM. Both sides are the same song. One side is the longer version. The record I have is about 25 years old but in good condition. The problem is that I collect MP3's; I don't make them. If I ever decide to part with the record, and you still don't have it---I'll send it to you.

I have every Disco record from 1975 and before (45's and albums) except for Bananaticoco by Max B (I have the Mp3 for this one)and How Can I Forget by the Realistics. I have Black Skin Blue Eye Boys by the Equals---the 45 version that used to be played in Discos, but the record is noisy and scratched---I downloaded this version (45) from a friend of mine. The version of this song (BSBEB) in AudioGalaxy is not the 45 version, which was the best and original.

I also have the Chocolat's first three albums. By the way, I saw the Chocolat's first two albums for sale in Amazon.com and Ebay; the songs were the same but the covers were not the originals. The records I have from the Chocolat's are from 1974-1976---the real MacCoys.

Hi Fantomas. You can make a MP3 from a record by connecting a RCA cable to your record player's line out, connect a RCA/audio plug adapter to the RCA cable, plug the audio plug end into the line in socket of your sound card and record the songs using sound software, I use Gold Wave. And to convert WAV to MP3, you use a MP3 converter, the one I use is "Razor Lame" and it works very good.

If you want to make MP3's I can email you both "Gold Wave" and "Razor Lame".

Good advice, but I'll add a few important things:

(1) On the stereo side: Turntables do not have a line-out level output like CD players or tape decks (a handful of recent consumer turntables do, but these are few and far between). If you simply connect the turntable to the soundcard, you will get a barely-audible, buzzy signal, sort of like hearing music through headphones that aren't on your head. You can boost the signal by going through the Mic input if your soundcard has one, but this will still result in a very tinny and bass-less sound. The reason for this, is that for technical reasons too lengthy to explain here, records aren't recorded with a flat frequency response. So, the pre-amp boosts the bass and cuts some of the highs. This is why you can't plug a CD player into the phono jacks on a stereo and vice-versa. So, unless you've got a turntable with a pre-amp built-in, you need to plug your turntable into your stereo, and run the "tape out" or "line out" jacks to your sound card.

(2) On the PC side: recording audio is a very demanding task for your PC. Make sure that you have plenty of disk space free, lots of RAM, and that you have disabled as many background applications as possible. Don't try to run other programs while recording audio, as you will likely get hiccups and clicks in the resulting file.

(3) On the technical side: For best results, record at 16-bit, 44.1 kHz sampling rate. This is what CDs use. Lower bit/sampling rates will result in poor sound quality, higher ones might sound slightly better, but will take up more disk space and cannot be read by many applications. When encoding to MP3, use *at least* a 128kps/sec setting. Lower settings mean a smaller file size, but the sound quality really suffers. I think the de facto standard is now 196 kbps/sec, but I'm not really into MP3s, so don't quote me on that.

Fantomas - as you got everything from 1975 could you check the following out? Did the Banzaii album contain any tracks with guest vocalists Les Glodettes or were the ladies present just on the 2 different edits of the 7" out during the summer of '75?

Funky, I just found and played “Salsa” for the first time in 20 plus years!, I have the album version it is 6:55 long, released in 1976 on Fania/Cotique label, definitely an original disco classic, the rest of the album is pretty good too, they covered “Do it anyway you want it” “Bad luck” and “Laura” produced by Frankie Crocker
