One of my all time favourite Disco records is Funk De Mambo by Karma. All I've ever owned is an American 7" and the English 7" of this little gem. I never saw anything since this release by them. I notice that Bernie doesn't have it in the A-Z and quite honestly I don't know much about the band. Anyone out there who can fill in some of the missing links?

I'm really amazed that this has drawn a blank. Are my tastes just so leftfield?
NOT TO WORRY:
After about 2 hours of dead ends and likely leads I eventually found out some info.
Karma only lasted about 2 years as such. By all accounts it was not really a formal band (surprise, surprise) and they made 2 albums which were generally jazzy. It looks like Funk De Mambo was a one off in many respects. It was the very first 12" record on A&M Horizon label.
One of the members of the band was Reggie Andrews who later produced Patrice Rushen and Dazz amongst others. The two singers on the track were none other than Syreeta Wright and Deniece Williams. So no wonder it sounded so good.

There's an LP available on gemm as well as both 7" and 12" versions of the song. I'm not familiar with it but it looks like a good little jazz funk item, especially if Reggie Andrews and Niecy are involved

By all means, track down the 12" if at all possible. Not only is
this a great mix,but it's pressed with BIG phat/fat wide
grooves! The sound at a club was amazing with a wide spacious boom.I'm glad this track has finally picked up some
buzz in the last few years-it deserves it.

I love this tune - I got it when it got it's origin UK release in the UK, but only on a 7". However it did include a long version. I need to track down the 12"
