| Welcome all to a list of tracks that I've been movin' my groove thing to this week. They're on a Minidisc I've put together, just to lay some tracks down before I put them back in storage. I remember playing all of these pretty heavily back in the early - mid '70s on. Do It 'til you're Satisfied - B.T. Express Soul Makossa - Afrique (even better than Manu's) Gangster Boogie Bump - Willie Henderson The Boogie Man - Greg Perry Who's Makin' Love - Johhny Taylor Mr. Bump Man - Jackie Beavers Follow the Wind - Midnight Movers Unlimited Get On Down - Eddie Harris (what a groove) I'm Mad as Hell - 100 Proof Aged in Soul You're The One - Little Sister Black Water Gold - African MUsic Machine (is this the same tune as made by the Sunshine Band some years later?) Mas Zacate - El Chicano K Jee - Niteliters I Don't want to Work Today - New York Port Authority If You're GOnna Do It - Peoples Choice Do it Fluid - Blackbyrds Shake Your Body - Made In USA Shake Your Rump To The Funk - Bar Kays If you Feel Like Dancin' - Al Huson & soul Partners Sexy - MFSB Foot Stompin' Music - Bohannon Dynomite - Tony Camillo's Bazuka Then I dragged out some slightly newer tracks just for a good mixture. All of these earnt their keep too. Tee's Happy - Northend Something That You Do to Me - T. Life Do It anyway you Wanna - Mike T (I can't tell you how much I like this record) Zulu - The Quick A little Bit Of Jazz - Nick Straker Band Dance Freak - Chain Reaction The Rock Is Gonna Get You - Gordon's War Let Her Feel It - Simplicious Still In The Groove - Raydio with Ray Parker Jnr. Dance It Up - Matt Fretton So, I make that tracks from 1969 - 1984 and I still love 'em. |

| Hi QUINNY. Fantastic list you have there. I'm familiar with half the ones you mentioned and I LOVE "Follow The Wind" by Midnight Movers and "You're The One" by Little Sister, very catchy funk songs. Here are some more great funk tracks to add to your list: Dennis Coffey - Scorpio 1971 Dynamic Corvettes - Funky Music Is The Thing Pts 1 & 2 1974 (Part 2 is even better because it has a KILLER superfunky synthesizer wah wah sound) Bobby Sax & The New Messiah - Out House 73 1973 Sylvers - Don't Stop Get Off 1978 Memphis Horns - Get Up & Dance 1976 Brass Construction - Movin'/Dance 1975 Curtis Mayfield - Junkie Chase 1972 Parliament - Side Effects/Mothership Connection 1975 Rhythm Makers - Zone 1975 Jimmy Castor Bunch - E-Man Partay/Maximum Stimulation 1977 Kool & The Gang - Love The Life You Live 1971 Patti Jo - Make You Believe In Me 1975 Temptations - Happy People 1974 Commodores - I Feel Sanctified/Gonna Blow Your Mind 1974 Commodores - Slippery When Wet 1975 Van McCoy - Turn This Mother Out 1975 Con Funk Shun - FFun 1977 Kool & The Gang - Caribbean Festival/Spirit Of The Boogie 1975 Jackson 5 - Hum Along & Dance 1973

| FunkyDude: Nice to see your list YET AGAIN! I can see you're going to be a serious '70s funk head pretty soon. I just hope you don't get too bogged down in the '70s. It was a magical time for me, 'cos I was playing all that stuff, getting people on the dance floor to it and getting paid to do it, but I have to tell you that a lot of the '70s stuff sounds like it came from the ark now. It even sounds older than some of the '60s stuff to me, especially some of the more obscure funk tracks. There was lots of it around at the time and unfortunately the funk equivalent of the Northern Soul brigade push a lot of titles as being 'gems' just because of their rarity. I could never be into all of that. May the FUNK be with you Funky Dude. |

| I would tend to disagree, Quinny. For me, personally, the Seventies was the best era for music - and funk music is definitely a part of that. There were a few Seventies funk records that didn't make the grade, to be sure, (and Northern Soul as well), but you make it sound as if the whole genre were bad records. And that can't be right!. When I play a funk record like "Brick House" by the Commodores or "Funky Stuff" by Kool and the Gang or a host of other records, I am still 100% KNOCKED OUT by them - exactly the same as I was 25 years ago!! I will never be able to get enough of that bass line in "Brick House"! Never!  And, yes, I do keep up with and enjoy the new stuff as well!

The funk from the 80's, 90's and today most of of it ain't as HARDCORE as it was in the 70's. The stuff from the recent years doesn't compare to: Parliament - Side Effects 1975 Commodores - Slippery When Wet 1975 Bar-Kays - Son Of Shaft 1972 Kay Gees - Hustle With Every Muscle 1975 Dynamic Corvettes - Funky Music Is The Thing Pts 1 & 2 1974 Brinkley & Parker - Don't Get Fooled By The Pander Man 1974 Betty Davis - This Is It 1975 (NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL FUUUUUUUUUNKY MUSIC!!!!) Kool & The Gang - Jungle Boogie 1973 (That shits on their 80's "Cherish") Isaac Hayes - Chocolate Chip 1975 Bar-Kays - Shut The Funk Up 1977 Brothers Johnson - Get The Funk Outta Ma Face 1976 Just for the record I don't mind "Cherish" by Kool & The Gang, it's nice but it's no way near as cool as their 70's funk material. And 70's disco to me sounds more cool than the Barbie doll techno we have today that sounds too pop oriented and souless. Speaking of Barbie dolls, on Australian TV there was a Barbie Doll music CD compilation called "Barbie's Pool Party Mix" advertised and of course the album cover is very PINK and it features a lot of the popular pop diva techno music like Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears etc... plus techno music from those BLOODY boy bands like NSTINK, Human Nature etc... and thinking that dance music of today has become like this makes me bloody sick mate! Anyhow here's the link to the playlist of that "Barbie's Pool Party Mix": http://www.nzgirl.co.nz/articles/238 And here's a pic of the album cover too "YUCK!": ![]() Okay the little girls will love this CD, good for them, I cannot stand Barbie Dolls nor Barbie Doll music especially "Barby Girl" but that's my opinion. Anyhow seeing I'm 20, I should be by so called peer pressure standards listening to techno, rap or death metal but I chose the music I like and I'm stickin' to it. Anyhow please don't take my comments to heart, they are just my own personal opinions. What I say may well be a load of crap to some of you  . Cheers _________________ Australia mate! | FunkyDude: I know you have your opinions and I'd like to see more of them, instead of the same thing over and over and over. It just gets a bit boring seeing parts of the same list for the umpteenth time. Just MY opinion mate. I'll cross you off of my Christmas card list then? |

| I've got hundreds of disco/funk songs to list. Reason I put those particular ones is because they are the funkiest to I use them as best examples of funk. Also I guess you already read my comment about modern dance in your "Rap Killed Disco" thread. Anyhow reason I repeated my comments on dance music today opposed to dance music of the 70's is to emphasize why I like the 70's better. Anyhow with playlists I will still include songs I usually mention as I REALLY like them, but I do vary the list with other songs as well, it depends on what subject of disco and funk we're looking at. As for my comments on todays dance opposed to 70's dance, I'll shut up about that now as everyone knows my opinion for the third time as I've posted about it 3 times. Cheers
