Does anyone know what the flip side was to the Bourgie Bourgie 12" single that Ashford & Simpson put out in 1977? This record seems to be almost impossible to locate.

As far as I know....that record was only on an LP(?) at least here in America...as I never owned that title by them on a 12"....but it also exists with vocals by Gladys Knight & The Pips (Columbia)as well as an Instrumental version by John Davis & The Monster Orchestra (Sam Records)......all versions are excellent!

If you're looking for Bourgie Bourgie itself there was a triple vinyl box set (and double cd)called Larry Levan: Live at Paradise Garage released about two years ago here. Vinyl has the full length unmixed version along with Let Yourself Go -Supremes, My First Mistake - Chi-lites, At Midnight - T-connection and more. Worth checking out.

Never saw a 12" but that doesn't mean there wasn't one.

The album, if you're looking, is "Send It", 1977 on WB.

"Bourgie Bourgie" appeared on a Warner Brothers UK 12" as the flip side of "Love Don't Make It Right" in 1980. I don't think it got an original release in 1977 on 12".

Incidentally, "Bourgie Bourgie" was a minor pop hit for Gladys Knight and the Pips in that same year of 1980. Maybe that's why Warner Bros decided to put out the Ashford and Simpson version on the B-side of a 12".....

Hey Bernie.
See what you started when you mentioned "Bourgie Bourgie." You had me pulling out my "Send It" album and you've other members hunting the song down. The force is strong with you

Paul,

So you remember when I mentioned that I found the "Send It" LP a few weeks back? I've been playing this album since then and it is really good. Besides "Bourgie Bourgie" I especially like "By Way of Love's Express."

"By Way of Love's Express." Now cut it out Bernie. I don't want to see a thread on this song in addition to causing us with the album to run home and play it

I got it here in London about a year ago. Haven't seen it around for a while though.

Just a quickie on this one..my copy of the UK 12" of Ashford and Simpson's version of 'Bourgie Bourgie' has a really odd phased but vastly speeded up section about halfway through as if the master tape slipped which makes it unplayable ...are they all like this? It's not on the UK 7" edit... is it on any of the CD versions?

I've read elsewhere that it was a production cock-up although there are later versions (even rarer then the original release) with this ommitted. Personally, my favourite version of this track is the Gladys Knight version - as far as I can tell the album version is the same as the 12" and a lot lot cheaper to get hold of in orignal vinyl.
