Default Top 40/successful Disco Versus Non-successful/hard Disco

Recognize these songs? Never can say goodbye (Gloria Gaynor), Love to Love you Baby (Donna Summer), Boogie oogie oogie (Taste of Honey), I will survive (Gloria Gaynor), Macho Man (Village People), Love Hangover (Diana Ross), Stayin Alive (Bee Gees)...these are just a few; what do these songs have in common?

Do you recognize these songs? Fire Night Dance (Peter Jacques Band), Nights in White Satin (Georgio Moroder), I never can say goodbye (Poussez), I found love (now that I have found you) (Alec R. Costandinos), Give me love (Cerrone), Trocadero Bleu Citron (Alec R. Costandinos), Losing you (Michael Zager Band).

What is the difference between the songs in the first and second paragraphs? The songs in the first paragraph were disco songs that made it into the top 40, some number one hits. The songs in the second paragraph, in which most of us in this forum might recognize, some never made top 40 or even top 100.

I loved all disco music. In fact, I liked the disco music that wasn't so recognizable and unheard of more than the top 40/successful songs. Share with us what top 40 disco songs or albums you liked, and the not so successful or unknowns that you liked.
:-)

I think it has more to do with timing, label and marketing/promotion than the actual songs..

There are so many great songs that never got the attention they deserved ...

Quality itself doesn't equal commercial success without the other "ingredients" mentioned ..

Yeah, I agree Norman, cause a lot of those albums and songs that were great but never made it came either when disco was on the decline, or when disco had almost died. But there were other great albums and songs, in my opinion, that were mind boggling and came out at the peak of disco and never made it.

We must also not forget that between 1976 and 1978 the market and the public became inundated with too much disco, and it was just too much out there for everyone to listen to or digest.

The same is happening I believe with Rap; everyone is now on that bandwagon, but Rap has been around for so long versus the 5 to 7 years for disco; but nothing lasts forever as we all found out with disco.

But I agree Norman, yes I agree with your post, timing, all of this plays.
