The older and the younger member here

I think is not important the age, but it is a way to know when you begun on music, for me it was 1972, I remember when I listened for the first time "Funky Nassau".
I am secure that I am not the younger member, I am 44, and you?

I am born and grown up 1963 (now 39) in East Germany. My interest of disco music began 1977/78 with songs from Donna Summer, Claudja Barry and Cerrone.
At this time I was a "musical outsider". Friends heard Deep Purple, Pink Floyd or British popmusic of The Rubettes and Smokie.

I started on 1973 with Barry White's "Let the music play". I was born in 1959 and I remember that at that age I was an outsider too, because quite all of my friends listened only to rock... I still have some rock album in my collection, as Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Genesis, but now they are covered by dust... Now I'm 43!

I'm not necessarily the youngest member on the board but I am probably the youngest regular to the board, I'm 20 and going to be 21 in October this year. I got into disco when I was 13 back late 1994 when I was listening to retro radio show "Lost in the 70's" which played mainstream music that hit the Australian charts. First disco songs I listened to were "Never Can Say Goodbye" by Gloria Gaynor, "Le Freak" by Chic and "Get Dancin'" by Disco Tex & The Sex-o-lettes and that song I first heard when watching the Simpsons Thanks Giving episode when Homer was driving to pick up his grampa. Anyhow a few years later after hearing all of the pop disco I started record collecting and discovered a whole range of disco and funk and have now got a total collection of say somewhere between 200 and 300 records.

Hard for me to believe, but I am 38 and will turn 39 on October 7. Still feeling like a kid and I think music has played a major factor in this. As long as I have that connection to my youth I'm good to go-music does that for me.



Would have to say the song "Rock the Boat" back in 1972 got me into Disco although I didn't know it at the time.

At 34, I'm probably one of the younger members of this message board (though not the youngest), and I didn't get into disco until 1995. I heard this disco radio show one time I was at a Thai restaurant, and when I left I decided to tune into that station in my car, and I've been into disco ever since. I was mainly into rock until then (and I'm still into rock), but I think that disco helped me get into other types of music.

I'm old enough (50) to not remember which record or event got me into Disco music. I think the first soul record I appreciated was Reflections by the Supremes. I recall it was at a fair and I was riding on the Dodgems, when it came blasting over the PA system. It just blew me away for some reason.
However my conversion to dance music came when I began DJing. Prior to that, I was heavily into Rock music.

I was born July 8, 1974, which makes me 28. Like a lot of people, my first taste of disco was the mainstream. Nowadays (and particularly after discovering Dance100-FM) I have gone away from the more mainstream stuff, and to the more underground "real disco" tracks.

Not that I don't like some of the mainstream stuff...used to listen to KC & The Sunshine Band a lot when I was younger.

I got hooked on disco in 1993, while going through my father's crap in the attic. Found some tapes he'd recorded from WBOS 93.3 FM, "Disco 93" in Boston. Live mixes, early morning recordings. I listened to those for ages... until I discovered his vinyl in 1999, and then Napster came along... and that's when I turned hardcore.

Just realized I'd left out my age... I am 18, will be 19 in March.

I got into disco music at the tender age of 16 in 1977. I was then a rock lover and I went along to the local disco up the road and I heard all this American Import soul and funk for the first time. The record that got me hooked? - ROY AYERS - Running Away

The moments that I first really started to get into music was somewhere btwn the Beatles and The Supremes....of course, Diana and the Girls won out - they had better wigs, gowns and hand gestures....plus Motown versus Capitol - puhleeeeasse!

My first real disco experience was when I first danced with another man and that was to "Honey Please," by Barry White. It came out the same year I was a few months away from turning 20....you do the math.

I was born in 1965, have brothers much older and I remember the day my sister brought home a record called "The Rosko Show", plus some soul singles from people like the O'Jays, Aretha, Roberta Flack, etc.
But my first personal taste with disco was in 1978 with "Saturday Night Fever"... the soundtrack, because the movie was no-minors allowed in my country.
In 1979 the first home parties started... I remember the first one, with a little record changer (tocadiscos) and some singles like Patrick Juvet's "Got a feeling/Another lonely man", this was a 7'.
Then came the clubs, teenage parties... I wanted to be a DJ back then. But, at the same time, I also listened to rock music (still do both). Then it came prog rock, then prog jazz, then new wave, goth, blues, older jazz... Then rap and electronica, also had a taste for the Pixies and Jane's Addiction... Anyway, a pretty mixed mind. But the best parties still have disco music for me.

I was born 1951 in Brooklyn, New York, and for as long as I can remember there was ALWAYS music in my house. My parents loved blues, jazz and plain old 'soul'. They were always dancing around the house. They and the neighbors loved to throw house parties. As I got older, Mom always wanted to hear the latest and newest songs I had spent my money on. For me, "getting into disco" was like getting up and getting dressed in the morning.

Ironically, the first song I remember catching my attention in a large club is Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly". The dj hadn't been mixing, just playing one song after another. When he used this to slow the room down it was awesome. The 'highs' were so clean and that foot pedal coming out of the bass speaker had me drooling. For a kid just out of the service and back home from being overseas, I couldn't wait to see what was going on with the music.

I'll be 40 soon. My interest in this music started in 1974-75 when dances were organized every 2nd friday night at the high school, I recall these tracks being played: Resonance - OK Chicago, TSOP-MSFB, The Hustle, The silver convention, Belle Epoque - Miss Broadway, etc.
First time I have listened to Moroder's "I feel love" I was really impressed on new sound technology.
