| ****** Brainstorm LOVIN' IS REALLY MY GAME There's no denying that this rapid-fire, full -on energy tune was a monster disco hit for Detroit based Brainstorm in 1977 . 8) But check out the song's lyrics which seem to demand further reflection . Just what was the problem with this obviously more than ready and willing "TAKE ME HOME" type of disco queen ??? Here's the situation as laid out in the lyrics : I can't catch no man Hangin' out at a discotheque But I believe in the boogie Oh, but the boogie don't believe in me Well, I got my way of groovin' Sittin' down right in my seat I get soul satisfaction Yeah, without jumpin' up and down on my feet Whoa...ho...disco guy You'll be sorry if you pass me by I've got what you need Boy, I wouldn't tell you no lie Why not give me a chance I swear I could prove it That don't mean I can't move it And it's close to perfection I just use it in another direction, yeah Ooh...ooh...yeah I can't catch no thrill Though the music they're playin' makes me feel When all is said and done Well, now, I know what it's all about Well, hey, come along with me If you do I will guarantee I'm gonna give you my love And the way it's gonna make you shout, shout, shout, boy Disco guy You'll be sorry if you pass me by I've got what you need And boy, I wouldn't tell you no lie Why not give me a chance I swear I could prove it That don't mean I can't move it And it's close to perfection I just use it in another direction from LyricsKeeper.com Well ......what is the rest of the story ? :???: What's the problem here ? Why can't she catch no man hangin' out at the discotheque ? ?;) Here are some possibilities : A) Besides her day job at the beauty parlor ...she is also on call to sub perform for either ill -feeling Weather Girl . B) Is known for hanging out at the DJ booth and repeatedly requesting Roberta Kelly's ZODIACS . C) Always wears a T-Shirt saying " PETER FRAMPTON ROCKS " . D) Can translate into seven languages every Donna Summer moan in LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY . E) Is so club cra-zy even Grace Jones is afraid of her. F) ... Or perhaps this is what the song is alluding to .....perhaps ... just perhaps ....being as it is a disco .... its because the particular guys hanging out there ..... are ... simply, shall we say .... "not interested " :-P:-P:-P *****

B. LOL Poor Roberta! C. We'll forgive her because we're more interested in what's underneath. D. No, this would be a plus! E. This could be a plus too. F. And the winner is F - Most likely from this list. More opinions welcome! |

| Ha ha ha, Remicks--I loved your multiple choice list! I always figured she was trying to say that she was too shy to get up and dance, but she was still a hot number.

| It's not that she won't dance.....she can't dance. Look at the lyric again: But I believe in the boogie Oh, but the boogie don't believe in me The boogie does not believe in her. How sad. Sort of like Elaine on Seinfeld. Poor things. I've seen many of them roaming the parking lot after the club closed. |

| Evidence: She's at the disco. She likes the music. She likes the guys and wants to get picked up. She can't dance. She's desperate to get banged savagely. Possible conclusions: a. She's butt-ugly b. She's pathologically shy c. She's a jailbird, and was never out long enough before to learn to dance d. She has "2 left feet" e. She's drop-dead gorgeous, but she picks her nose and eats her buggers in public f. She's a little retarded, and doesn't realize the fancy men around her holding hands and kissing, wearing tank tops, leather caps and shorts that hardly cover their butt, are not just acting real friendly, and will never invite her to dance, especially after having seen her perform e. My conclusion: First, she's b. on account of her having d. But that doesn't really matter anyhow since she's also f. Last edited by KoolChris; September 19th, 2006 at 06:28 AM. |

| *****:lol::lol::lol: These are all great reponses from you all !! The song has rather odd lyrics though doesn't it ? Not really about having a good time in a club ..... as one would expect .. " never mind all this dancing stuff ..... anybody wanna blow this place and really "party" ?? " :p The idea shocked me at first ... :-o ....but the scenario that best explains it .... I now think is Noman's !! Well, I got my way of groovin' Sittin' down right in my seat I get soul satisfaction Yeah, without jumpin' up and down on my feet This is about someone who for some reason is unable to get on the dancefloor .... Wouldn't that make this one of the most bizarre disco songs of all time ..... sung from the viewpoint of someone confined to a wheelchair ... . I can't catch no thrill ..... I believe in the boogie ... oh...but the boogie... ... don't believe in me ....:sad: Thanks Noman ..... now you've made this wildly frantic song sort of creepy and disturbing !!! Quote:

| I get the same disturbed feeling from another great song Addrisi brothers - Ghost dancer But it's not as subtle "Who is this stranger Who comes here every night It's such a spooky sight He always dances alone When he dances People move aside They stand there hypnotized He's got a haunting dance of soul I've heard it said Once upon a time He had a lover And they showed that love By dancing with each other Everywhere he danced The crowd would roar And yelled for more Oh, but then Something happened and She never danced again And they say he stayed Beside her to the end With her dying breath She whispered she'd be With him on the floor He to the rhythm and They danced once more Who is this ghost dancer You can feel it in the music Ghost dancer She shivers in the night Ghost dancer Dancing to the music in the night This lonely stranger Acts like he's in a spell Waits til the stroke of twelve The starts to dance with The shadows of night When he starts spinning Under the mirrored ball The beams of light that fall Reveal the man has Tears in his eyes And when he moves You get the strangest feeling Someone else is there The way he wraps his arms Around thin air Dancing cheek to cheek And face to face With empty space I could swear As the strobe lights start to flash There's someone there Through the haze of Cigarette smoke in the air You can see her ghostly image In the mirror of the floor She reaches up to touch him And they dance once more" |

| She gave up too early and wrote of her troubles after only 1 night. She may need to work the club for a couple of nights to find her man, especially if she can't/won't dance. |

| I agree with Svend. And if I can brag for a moment, I met Belita Woods, who wrote the lyrics and sang lead (She was signing autographs in a record store promoting a George Clinton record she sang on). I mentioned Brainstorm and she seemed honestly surprised that I remembered. She was stylishly dressed and I'll be she would have much of a problem catching "a man hanging out in a discotheque." And what a thrilling rush of a song. I still play it often. |
