Was away for a few days and your Top 25 submissions piled up big time this past weekend. Even so I've recorded all votes and things are coming along nicely.

Of course there were a few numb nuts who tried to vote more than once. They think they can fool me by typing another e-mail address. Overall though everyone has been pretty good with song titles... Thank you!

Don't want to skew the results so I won't give away anything concrete except to say that this baby will be quite different from last time. The usual pop stuff is there, but watch for some surprises.

One thing that's been a little annoying is people voting for things that are not within the time frame specified. These end up being wasted votes since no one else will ever vote for them and will quickly be overshadowed by other songs. Use your votes wisely.

If you haven't submitted your Top 25 please do since I'm thinking of closing the voting sometime soon, but I'll give everyone plenty of notice-maybe!

Well, I only voted one song that's just out of the time frame and it is "Scorpio" by Dennis Coffey recorded in 1971, although I heard it was a hit in the UK in 1972 looking at Phil's Disco website. Anyhow there are some songs between 1968 and 1972 that come close to the disco category although more on the funk/soul/r&b side such as:
Isaac Hayes - Theme From Shaft 1971 (This song is on a few disco compilations)
Booker T & The MG's - Melting Pot 1971
Curtis Mayfield - Get Down 1971
Kool & The Gang - Love The Life You Live 1971
Dennis Coffey - Scorpio
Curtis Mayfield - If There's Hell Below 1970
Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up 1970
Jackson 5 - The Love You Save 1970
Edwin Starr - Time 1970
Jackson 5 - I Want You Back 1969
Archie Bell & The Drells - I Can't Stop Dancing 1968 (Sounds very disco for R&B music)

And half of thse songs did pretty good in the charts too. I'm just wondering would you make a few exceptions with the timeframes if these songs got a good number of votes? I honestly couldn't omit "Scorpio" from my top 25 as I play that song so many times because of it's infectious bass/percussion/guitar rhythm and it fits in closely with the funk/r&b/disco category.

Bernie: I apologize again for having accidentally voted for two disco songs which were recorded after 1986, namely "Cosmic Girl" and "Murder on the Dancefloor". You are welcome to contact me privately if you will allow me to substitute two other disco songs from within your timeframe. I still don't understand the significance of the 1986 cutoff year. What happened in 1985 and 1986 for the disco genre? I personally don't consider 1980s Hi-NRG to be disco music.

Funky,

I wouldn't worry about your choices-"Scorpio" is great. I'm speaking more of things from the 90s that some have voted for.

Discosavvy,

Your votes were recorded, but those later tracks have already fallen off the charts.

Perhaps in the future there will be an all-encompassing Dance Songs of all time list, but the 1986 cut-off was an arbitrary point just to keep things reasonable and within the traditional Disco period. In fact if it wasn't for everyone's urging I probably would havee cut it at 1982.

No substitutions can be made after votes have been tabulated though. Even so, everyone should enjoy this list when it comes out. Thanks to everyone who has voted thus far.

Paul,

Perhaps Only because I'm as anxious as everyone else to see how things come out! Either way, I'll give everyone at least a week's notice before i close voting.

Please don't hesitate to contact friends and co-workers and have them submit their Top 25 as well. The more the better.

Yikes! Like Paul, I thought we had lots of time to consider this, three or four months anyway.

But after thinking about it, I agree with Bernie: Let's not drag this thing out too long.

So I'm gonna get started. Let's see... Numner One... Hmmmm... Is her name spelled "Ethel" or "Ethyl"...?

I honestly don't know, but I would like to shoot for November. Even if the voting finished soon it takes a while to compile, check accuracy of titles and create the behind the scenes structure for the page display.

When the voting is halted depends on how many submissions are received. The more the better since it will give us a well rounded representation of musical tastes. I would like to say the end of September will be the cut-off for votes which is only a few weeks away, but I'll play it by ear.

No matter when the cut-off date is I'll always hear from someone who hasn't voted and how come they weren't told... So I want to give everyone an opportunity to vote. Tell all your friends and let's get those votes in!!!

Dag-nab-it! I lurk here all the time and keep up with my old friends behind the scenes. I, like Paul, better get off my ass (of no color) and vote! You know my selections will be the ones with the higher BPMs and saxophones!

Hello all! Much love to you!
