Even I (generally a Moroder hater) think this 12" is a freakin' amazing record; that's why I find the demo version contained on Grand 12-inches 4 sooooo disappointing.

The instrumental break and build up is devastating - a dancefloor killer thats for sure.
I think I'll just rip my vinyl.

Finally I had my copy and you're right. This is an unknown version of "The Runner", totally lacking punch. If I would here this on the radio I would think: who made this cover???? Where's that slapping base coming from? Never heard this before!

The rest of the box is cool, specially the Bobby O productions!

I have found that a lot of the Three Degrees songs reissued on CD are ReRecordings done in the 90:s. I have found information about recording sessions in Portugal -93 and some after that. They all sound similar to this version of the runner. Almost as a stripped down demo version. Could this be the result of a studiosession done in the 90,s?

Just got Vol. 4...very disappointed, compared to the others. Me thinks it might be a European vs American thing, as to why I am getting more frustrated as this series continues. I am getting real tired of the more electronic tracks...I want more real, organic disco.

Agreed...the Bobby O stuff has probably never sounded better, but even what he lists as a "12" Version" of "Disco Nights" by GQ is a joke...my 12" white label Arista Disco version is 5:51 and with a much meatier sounding breakdown.

Maybe licensing reasons are to blame, but Ben really needs to plunder the Prelude, Salsoul, and Casablanca vaults.

The sound quality of these sets are generally good...but for song selection, I'm starting to prefer the GetDisconnected comps over these (though I think the mastering on those is TOO COMPRESSED).

I too wondered about that Disco Nights being the 12" version. I have a longer version. I don't have that Liebrand release but when I saw the track listing I was curious.
As for mastering, I mentioned earlier that they sound good though I wonder if they are compressed/dynamically limited. I recently made my own compilation with songs from Vol. 3. I noticed on the program I used for burning there was a lot limiting on the songs I was burning. Graham, if you are reading this, any thoughts?

I can't speak in Ben's name but knowing the man a little bit I think he's more of an 80's lover. He started in 1976 (he's 47) but really got his breakthrough in the early 80's with his mixes for Dutch radio station Veronica. I would be very surprised if he can't get the license for Salsoul recordings since they're putting out so many compilations themselves.

Maybe it's a personal choice by him or maybe it's indeed a copyright problem.
