| Something exciting has happened !!! I’m getting dental work done in SF ….. and No, that’s not the exciting part . Going to Amoeba and scoring some 45’s there is Including …… at last ....... currently : 22) MOVIN’ LIKE A SUPERSTAR – Jackie Robinson (Ariola America 45/ 12" promo remix 4:25) (11 points/ F) 12 weeks on the chart/ Last week: #32 (+10) . Which has been the most successful top ten song on Marky’s current ongoing charts that I don’t have a clue about. Well, I’ve been thinking that Jackie Robinson was a guy …. ( As in the baseball player of the same name ) But its now occurring to me that this could be and probably is female vocal …. ? ..... Will I be delighted or disappointed? Prepare me !! I’ll wait and stare at this record for a week !! before playing it :cry: Remicks : MOVIN’ LIKE A SUPERSTAR by Jackie Robinson sounds like ______________ !!! | If it's the Jackie Robinson I know, she was a German singer not unlike Penny MacLean. In fact, her album 'I'm Different' featured the same German musicians as the Silver Convention/Penny MacLean stuff, like Dave King and Gary Unwin. The only track of her's I've enjoyed is Pussyfooter because of the wicked drum break that's been sampled to death. The rest of the album was pretty bad. I don't recall Moving Like A Superstar being on the album. Here's a couple of samplings of Pussyfooter: http://sandbox.pair.com/sound/sbr503_pfooter.ram http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF196621-01-02-03.mp3 Disco Funk |

http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/7093_0_2_0_C/ After probably about 30 years with out a spin I raided my old 7” stash… Heavy bass with wah wah guitars over strong drums intro, followed by short strings sets and stabs , girly chorus “There you are, you’re moving like a superstar” then Jackie (female) follows up with the first verse starting off soft but belting it out during the last line.. “Tonight I see you dancing, just before my eyes, your body is moving like a burning flame You’re free as an angel, Flying in Paradise But I’m so tired, and I just come undone” (followed by acoustic Piano solo bar) ….” girly “Superstar “ chorus again followed by the second different verse performed in the same fashion as the previous “The music all around me, keeps you out of reach And I’m sitting here like a big poor girls, Baby, come inside me, trust my only wish You know I get nervous and I sure come undone” (followed by string sets) (change up) “I don’t care what people say I’ll change (or show?) your life, a better way..” then a nice short break follows including congas over girly “Na-na-na-nana” chorus chants and instrumentation built up , then the “Superstar “ chorus takes over with Jackie’s strong beltings over that as the song fades out. I don’t think I own the extended 12” but the break would have been a prime candidate for expansion and a third verse couldn’t hurt either, She has a great strong voice, that adds to this song’s strong Big club “underground” feel, I’d bet this cut was a great treat in a loud club system BITD (don’t recall if I ever experience it), not a polished standard “Disco” number at all, certainly no trace of Silver Convention style anywhere. | Isn't "Moving Like A Superstar" just about the very epitome of the Euro sound? I remember it still being massive in holiday destinations thru Europe during the summer of 1976. The track is indeed included on Jackie's album. The tune got covered by Amadeo, a thinner French (?) Demis Roussos-lookalike. His 10 minute version is way faster than the original, and kicks off with an excitedly shouted intro:" ...presenting... you...you..YOU! You, The Superstar!!" The instrumentation flies madly, the girl chorus chants like they should and Amadeo rants and raves for his money's worth, and had the atrocious quality of the pressings available been better I think many djs would have spinned Amadeo along with Jackie. There was a 12" realese but most of us seemed to have been stuck with the lp. There's a third version as well, called "Dancing Like A Superstar" by White Heat which retains the original's tempo of c 130 bpm but alters the chant and the strings a bit, with the girls going: "There, there you are, dancing, dancing like a superstar". The main vocal is male, and delivers spoken lines like" Tonight I'm going dancing...it's Saturday night..."etc. |

| i love this song! you're in for a treat when you play it. it's an underground favorite of mine and a whole group of my friends. it was on the LP "i'm different" and there is a 12" as well, and is far superior to "pussyfooter", "pussyfooter" only gained acclaim because of the break, not because of the song. "there you are..."

| **** Thanks for the intriguing feedback so far !! I'm really encouraged ....was prepared to hear "That song sucks big time Remicks !!! " as is typically the case with opinions around here.... :p:lol: ..... but so far it seems to be getting a passing grade ! Discofunk had me thinking along the lines of Penny McLean or Silver Convention which I thought could be the case too... since its a German production of that era ... ...which would've been fine ....LADY BUMP is very dear to me ( hey, its got spunk !! ) But, now Mixmachine is making it sound like its something else. More full , more lyrical ... faster .... wahs wahs and heavy bass... ;) .... hey .... don't tell me this is one from the school of Isaac Hayes !! .....???........ I'm going to wait the week out to listen .. .. so more info /opinions are welcomed. I'm not even going to listen to that PUSSYFOOTER snip DF .....because I want this to come to me totally out of left field .... thanks remicks ***** the discokid : Quote:
