Default Pictures of the Trocadero Transfer!

I wanted to be sure to get the message out that you can find some wonderful photos of the interior of the Trocadero Transfer from the early 80s at the www.remembertheparty.com website.
When you're done here, you might want to head over to the "Trocadero Transfer Memorabilia" section of the RtP website.

The section has pictures of the Troc staff (including a very young Bobby Viteritti), scans of Troc newletters, posters and tickets, as well as fun advertisements for the disco albums that came out in the late 70s (Madleen, Sylvester, Gino, etc.). They even have a Disco Top 40 Chart from 1979.

The photos & scans download pretty fast even with dial up!

BTW, the blue background of the section peppered with stars is to remind you of the sky when we were dancing to morning music! The beautiful blue as the night was ending and the sun was starting to rise.

The section should grow as more people find submit our scans of Troc souvenirs!

A little disco history now available for you to see. :D

What a terrific collection Keefelc!!

A flooding of memories for me ...

---- If anyone wonders why the fuss about this place .... I guess it was because it was a culmination of all you could hope for in a disco ....in a club ...
It was a thoughful , carefully executed environment ... (witness the ritual of the cleaning of the mirror balls ( daily ??? ) !! )
It was a place that welcomed its patrons with embracing arms , supplying a safe place where your daily guard for living life in the big city could be thoroughly let down .... where the intent was always for everyone to share in a good time.
You arrived to The Troc with high expectations and it was there waiting to deliver .... The patrons were mixed ... always new faces .... but within it , there was a core crowd that took it all quite seriously ( not really the right word )... but they did demand the best .... these weren't casual "play anything cause I barely know the music anyway " types .... They are the ones that set the bar so high and The Troc responded in kind .

Many memories in this Keefelc. Like seeing a picture of Jimbo ..... the doorman .... a familiar face many many times .....

--- Manager David Caruso was a wonderful gentle soft-spoken man . He was the manager of The Lava Lava club in Hawaii when I DJ'd there. He was the quiet amidst so much that was chaotic at that club. It always amazed me at how calm he seemed ....'cause there was always something going awry. Spent many a day-after soaking up the rays on the beach .... We'd recount the night's events and it seemed like he never fretted much beyond ... "You know we almost ran out of rum last night " This in a wild club where it would all come to a crashing halt when the owner would be found bound & murdered .....

---- Bruce Tronson was an electronics genius , always involved in the club scene, and the best bud of my partner . They would spend hours in the basement of Oil Can's dinkering around . One time I came home from school to our apartmant and found that the two of them had arranged all the mixing equipment onto a false wall so all you could see were the reel to reels , amps , equalizers , and turntables... all neatly fitted in .... with all the wiring nicely invisible behind it all. It was beautiful. Stereo equipment was taken so seriously and was such an important part of participating in the music then .... Seeing Bruce's picture again sure brought it all back . He was another one amongst us that seemed to have a level head about him ....:)

Those various flyers for those events that The Troc put together .... all to keep it more interesting , to raise the experience there another notch .....to make being a member there more special ....

The Troc was a place that did so much more than just pump out music from 9 to 5 .....
.... hard to explain though .....

Just added to the www.remembertheparty.com website are my contributions to the Trocadero Memorabilia section. Right on time for the Pride Parades going on this month, I sent them some of my Pride Parade Photos from 1979 to 1986 of the floats for Trocadero, Dreamland, I-Beam, etc. The guys at the website restored the quality of the pictures before adding them to the site and they now look GREAT!!

Two more photos that I submitted were just added to the Troc Memorabilia section which may be of interest to you.

The first is a photo of the I-Beam's float in 1982 which featured Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes. This float was close to Aloha Record's float (if you can call it that - but that's another story!). While we were waiting for the Parade to start, I was able to walk over and snap some photos. I caught the "Two Tons" (as they were called at the time) rehearsing.

The second photo is the Aloha float with four of the staff and one of the owners, Donald, and several of our friends. Donald, who hailed from Hawaii, lent us colorful Hawaiian shirts. He also had beautiful orchid leis flown in from Hawaii for us to wear. :-D

So, where was Marky??!

How many of you were able to spot a very young Bobby Viteritti in the photos? Plus, what a contrast in budgets - Candi Staton on I-Beam's huge float to Loleatta Holloway on Studio West's car.

I did submit a few more photos. Hopefully, they'll also be added.

How fun to share a little bit of San Francisco's disco history!! :-D

just hearing the WORDS "Trocadero Transfer" puts a smile on my face. I remember having some sweaty, magical times there. As I recall, the best night to go was on a Sunday that preceded a Monday holiday. We enjoyed the IBEAM too, but it was so small and as I remember it didn't have the best ventilation. If anyone has any pictures of Oil Can Harry's or the Frisco Disco, I'd sure like to see them. The Frisco Disco was one of the few places that played any RandB but was in a rough neighborhood. A guy there stole my wrist watch right off my arm when I shook his hand! And people there were known to "add things" to your drink without your knowledge...

Some updates made to the Memorabilia section of the www.remembertheparty.com website. The funniest is the addition of a business card for The Balcony (aka "The Balony")! A business card for THAT place??? Those of you who remember know what I mean.

The Balcony and the Endup were two of the primary clubs you headed over to after a Saturday night Sunday morning at the Trocadero. The Endup was relatively nice - with a big patio that you could unwind to decently mixed disco! You can describe the Balcony in two words, "A MESS"! The bar was filthy in several meanings of the word. :D Plus, the music, oh my, the mixes were primarily "train wrecks" - I don't think the DJ put any effort into trying to match beats. What's funnier is that the drunk and/or high crowd would CHEER at the bad mixes - they were that bad but nobody cared!

Anyway, other updates to the site are the addition of more Trocadero membership cards and the addition of the poster for Remember the Party 5, which is coming up on Sunday, October 8th, 2006, with Jerry Bonham spinning again  !

With less than a week until the next Troc reunion party on this Sunday (Oct. 8th, 2006), pictures of a past Trocadero party from somewhere between December 1979 to December 1982 have been added to www.remembertheparty.com website. :-P These photos, which we believe came from Jim Feldman (the lighting person who followed after Billy Langenheim left) are of a leather event at the Troc!
