| I've not watched the whole programme yet, I recorded it and have so far watched 4 out of the 6 artists featured. The six "disco queens" featured were: Gloria Gaynor Donna Summer Sylvester :o Grace Jones Chaka Khan Madonna :-? Choosing Sylvester as a queen was obviously an unconventional choice, but it was excellent to see him as a subject for a mainstream documentary when he actually only had 1 Top 10 hit in this country. Choosing Madonna I think ruined the theme of the programme slightly, since her success didn't start until well after the disco era ended. Anyway, I've watched the first 4 artist features, all were very well researched with some excellent interviewees. Donna Summer wasn't interviewed, but Giorgio Moroder and Patti Brooks were. Gloria and Grace were interviewed, as were Tom Moulton, Dino Fekaris, Vince Montana Jr., Martha Wash, Jeanie Tracy and Jocelyn Brown. There was some rare footage of Donna singing LTLYB, and of Grace Jones singing "La Vie en Rose". Very entertaining, I'm looking forward to getting the opportunity to watch the Chaka Khan bit, and I suppose I'll sit through the Madonna part... |
