Man, if you're gonna start a thread about who is and who isn't rumored to be gay in the music industry, I hope it doesn't get too heated!

I wouldn't be surprised if Van was gay. It doesn't ruin my appreciation of his music any less. I imagine most of the members of Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes (even Teddy P) were gay or bi. Or even members of vocal groups like The Temptations and The Stylistics. For sure the lead singer of the Dynamic Superiors was gay. Luther was rumored to be gay. Johnny Gill supposedly was/is Eddie Murphy's lover.

I could go on and on, but I don't know if this topic is too hot for Disco Music.com.

But since you have opened a bigger can of worms .... oh what the hell :P ---- heat this damn website up a bit :P :P ....

Spill the beans DF .... what in the world makes you suggest that the entire Harold Melvin clan (most of ) was gay .... and also The Temptations ???

I don't have any direct evidence. Well, with Harold Melvin, I saw an old clip of them singing Bad Luck on some show and they were doing some really effeminate dancing. I know that may sound like a pretty weak clue, but I've also worked with many gay co-workers and worked in the big city, so my 'gay-dar' is pretty accurate. Its not an exact science, and I've been surprised many times to find out certain people were gay and I didn't even realize it.

The Teddy P thing has been floating around, and some have said he got into that car accident while getting hot and heavy with a man. The Tempts - I'm just throwing it out there. I just assumed some of them may have been gay.

Recent artists like Queen Latifah and Missy Elliot have been rumored to be gay. They even say that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett are gay. Just because someone is gay doesn't mean they don't get married and have children. Robert Reed of Brady Bunch fame married and had a child in the 1950's, but the marriage ended a number of years later. And while he's not music related, they say Tom Cruise is gay. I've heard that rumor for well over a decade now, so when I saw him go mental over Katie Holmes, I knew it was just an act.

Anyway, I'll let other people throw down some names because I don't want to be the only one saying stuff.

Whats this about labeling people as gay
and straight again
I am sure both
Teddy P and Luther had a lot of female realtionships
that doesn't mean that they never had realtionships with men

but going as far as saying that they were seeing the same sex on an exclusive basis is a bit far fetched
back at the time of Disco people cared less about labels
Today everything is back to the Freudism
the concept of homosexuality didn't even exsist before the 1800's

I mean some people get attracted to people the character regardless of what gender this person carries on the inside and on the outside

some people here are in dire need to read some
queer feministic philosophy

Were you around back then Sutnop? Yes , the disco music itself was as far reaching and embracing of all types of peoples beyond any other music genre ever 8) ......
but society at large ...... ?

Surely you'll recall the rockers' strategy to turn the population at large against liking disco !! ( pssst ----It's fag music. You're not a fag are you ? )
