Default KISS has the dumbest songs I ever heard in my life.

I've never understood what people thought was so great about much of Miles Davis' work. I bought "Bitches Brew" and it sounds like each musician is playing a different song at the same time. Bob Dylan is without question a stunning songwriter, but I find his voice positively painful to listen to; ditto Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. Though I always liked Ray Charles' voice, I never liked his records. And the appeal of Elvis Presley was always a mystery to me. Most of KC and the Sunshine Band's music doesn't appeal to me (I could write better lyrics in my sleep). Few of Gloria Gaynor's songs strike me as being good (never COULD stand "I Will Survive", ugly rhythm).

NO! I don't like that song.

Add to the list: Maze and Frankie Beverly. I only liked their first hit. Everything else is irritating to my ears. I think it's his voice I don't like.

And Lord forgive me again but I did not care for Luther. I loved his work with Change and his first couple of solos but everything else is just mediocre and sounds so....boring and same.

Eddie, they just didn't do it for me. Especially when people played 'Twilight' to death! Completely switched off then.

However, "Chase Me" sort of promotes my desire to be stalked by a young lady. That was one of their biggest dance numbers with a rock flavor. I'm surprised it wasn't bigger.
"Ffun" has a great riff but it is actually borrowed from Brass Construction's "Peekin'."
Honey Wild's lyrics from 1980 reminds me of a girl I almost married. The lines "although I was inside her body, I never knew her soul" "You destroy the beauty of a butterfly when you hold it in your hand" are truly one of a kind. The musical backdrop is very similar to Curtis Mayfield's "I'm so proud."
The live version of "I'm Leaving is superb and complete with a Lenny Williams-esque 2 minute love rap!
eddie, i think I remember your con funk shun post. I don't remember if I posted in it. The group only had a couple of songs I liked, and even then not so much that I wanted to buy them.

I have about 10 CD compilations because I wanted to get every ConFunkShun track and I heard them on a latter album rapping and sounding like the Barkays. I've placed them a little lower on the pillar since then but their primary hits and secondary midtempo and ballads are worth it for me.

then you must really hate

TEDDY PENDERGRASS or anything by HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUENOTES

what a shame.
ITs funny you mention this
since Teddy Pendergrass is probably one of my top5 Male Vocalists

and Harlod Melvin comes just right after.....

But I guess Colonel Abrahams is more an issue of production then his voice

Default Now to Adress the Donna Summer

Well for me Donna Summer
is like a commercial phenomenon that gets way too much credit

ofcourse her music production wise is great and versatile

so there is always something that someone must like

and I don't mind dancing to her cuts in the disco
or hearing some sampling her on a modern house tune or using her lyrics for RnB

but
all these fanclubs and stuff drive me nuts

its like we can have this neighberhood party everybody is eating and drinking and having fun

the comes the topic of music some 40year old housewife comes saying well
I am a Disco diva
I just love anything and everything with Donna Summer

and then she is hardly ever able to mention someone else
but she has to bring up Donna Summer

Just as these fanclubs that a couple of years ago messed up all the votes we were trying to have at this site

I mean who the hell made her the
main advocate or symbol of disco

This to me is a problematic
Because if you would associate disco´
with someone more funky
then it perhaps wouldn't leave this corny and cheasy aftertase
when you mention the word
(even the Simpsons diss Disco)

otherwise when the topic of music comes up I rather mention I listen to Funk or Soul
since these words hold much more 'street cred'

I think what might turn people of MAze

might be the drumb-machine beat like productions altough they don't bother me so much

I'm happy none of my favorite artists have been dissed so far

altough Stevie Wonder

How can you not like
Do I do
Master Blaster is greeat also (Stevie goes Marley)

Hey...

I do like quite a few songs of Stevie. I just don't like most of what he has done. I like "Master Blaster". I do not like "Do I Do". With him, I either loved it or hated it.

I do agree with your analysis of Donna Summer being a commercial phenomenon. Although I do like quite a few of her songs -- I never thought she was that great of a singer. There were quite a few who didn't get the fair share of attention back then because of her.

yes ..... I just hated the way mean ol' Donna Summer raced around from club to club back then .... demanding to be played and smashing everyone else's records to make sure .......

OK ...... here's one I can't stand .........Natalie Cole . Her vocal delivery just doesn't reach me ..... seems soulful as a cold water sea bass ..... . .... She hits the right notes, but it still ain't pretty ..... there's a grating tonal quality to her cacophonous screeching. For some reason the lame song D-D-D-D-D-D-D DANGEROUS first comes to mind whenever I think of her ..... I think it was the final straw in my attempt to like her ....

(counter attack! )

Frankie Beverly & Maze is alright in small doses. I saw one of his live concert DVDs with a performance from the early 80s, and I found it entertaining. I don't quite understand what was with all the ball caps and t shirts they were wearing. Someone needed a fashion consultant! The one track of theirs I can't get enough of, but its not a disco song, is the tune 'Happy Feelins'. I think that was the first song by them I ever heard, and I just like the feel and sound of the tune. 'Before I Let Go' is another fave of mine. Beyond that, I haven't felt the urge to go out and buy their stuff.

I've had that Maze album with Happy Feelings for almost 30 years and I still rank it as one of the better albums I have. Surprised it was never released in cd format.
