Default 10 (ten !!!!) years of Discomusic.com..... celebration???

Hello friends,

I've been away from this forum for a while and it's always a real pleasure to be back and find that this family place is even better than before!

I was thinking all of these when I went back in time to my first contact with Bernie's Disco Music page. I am quite sure it was 1996....... so it's 10 years now!!!!

The 90's have been the years that people changed their mind about disco.... not trash music but the music that changed the music. Few years of "disco" in the 70s and a long unfinished heritage of disco-like music thereafter. In these years we have had record compilations, books, movies and celebrations to put disco where it belongs. I am happy all these things happened in this decade to clarify some foggy minds, but we knew since the 70s that disco belonged to the heart, the soul, and what's inside each one of us. It's the beat of our lifes.

Thank you Bernie for running this site with love and dedication and thank you all everybody here for sharing your knowledge and memories!

As one of the older people here I would happy to see a celebration party for this site! I would be more than be happy to cach a plane to New York or wherever else in that case!!!

Happy first ten years Discomusic.com!!!

Giovanni,

I must apologize for not even seeing your post till today, March 18, 2005. I am so embarrassed  especially after all the kind words you had to say.

Thank you so much for the kind words and yes, it has been ten years. Hard to believe it's been that long, but it has been my pleasure to interact with people from all over the world such as yourself. It has been fun and we should all look forward to many more years together enjoying the sounds of Disco!

I'm going to move your post to the main forum so it doesn't get buried. Again, my sincere apologies for not noticing sooner.

Wow, that's a pretty long time, considering 10 years ago the internet was still in its infancy, and most of the internet connections I think were made at universities. I don't recall the first time I stumbled across the site. It must have been years ago, because I've hunted for vinyl for years. I only learned about the forum last year.

Congratulations Bernie!

Congratulations on 10 Years Bernie, and everyone who has contributed...

Perhaps Bernie could arrange for a 10 Years pin badge to sell on to us ?

How about a CD-R of the rarest, hardest to find disco 12"s in his collection?

Who could say no to that! :D :D :D lol

Congratulations! are definitely in order. I've only been on the internet since 2000, but when I found this site, I felt like the proverbial "kid in a candy store" (1st I found napster, then I found a place, that told me what to look for on napster) lol 8) Thanks to the people and information found on this site, my collection and knowledge has quadrupled in the last 5 years. Every month I find out about, more music, unknown artists, first hand experiences, fun facts, and all from people who have a love for melodic sounds, just like me! I find myself extremely appreciative of the "old heads" like Bernie who were there, old enough to appreciate it at the time, and smart enough to know, that it was something worth passing on :D
:D So here's to 10 more years! :D

Congratulations! It's hard to believe it's been ten whole years..

I know it's only recently that I've started posting regularly, but I first discovered the site and forum some six years ago. At the time I was just starting to explore disco, my initial basis being ABBA, Chic, my parents' well worn 8-track compilations and a little bit of Donna Summer.. Since then both the site and forum have been an incredible resource in exploring just how rich, diverse and unique disco is, especially for a relative newcomer to the genre like myself.. So thanks to Bernie for creating and maintaining this great resource for the past ten years!

In any case, disco is anything but dead, so here's to many more years! :)

I'll drink to that!

I think that would be a great idea actually.. I've been wondering if Bernie and a company like, say Soul Jazz or any of the others would be interested in producing a compilation based on the records listed on the site.. A kind of "discomusic.com presents.... " type of set tailored to disco entusiasts..

Not sure if it could fly, but I just felt like putting that out there..

Thanks again everyone for the very kind words. I'm just so happy that many have found the site useful and continue to frequent and help it grow.

As for the "discomusic.com presents.... " CD concept, that is one I am very open to if a reputable label wanted to do it and one that I have toyed with for quite some time, but never perused.

Thanks again everyone!!!

That would be pretty cool. You could focus on the rare 12" mixes that rarely find their way onto album reissues. I guess it would be easiest to deal with one company like Universal or Sony/BMG who own a whole bunch of labels, and then go from there. Perhaps Donald Cleveland would know more about how that works.
