I just discovered a new example of a disco song from the '70s that hasn't been released till now. On the October 2002 "70's Anthology" by The Supremes (on the Universal label), there's a disco song called "Bend a Little". Some people like it and are wondering why it wasn't released by Motown as a single back in the original disco era.

I love "Bend A Little," one of the highlights of the '70s Anthology for me.. Also love the instrumental version on the Motown Disco Machine, Vol. 2 LP. I don't think there was any reason why it shouldn't have at least made the album.. Such a tight, funky track too. Though perhaps the lyrics were a tad clumsy in places, they could have easily polished that, to me it was still a keeper..

I remember before the Anthology came out, this track was almost legendary in the Supremes online fan groups. As if I remember this rumour about Diana Ross supposedly throwing a fit and threatening to leave Motown if the Supremes were allowed to release this song   I doubt that was true, it was good but not THAT good. Still, it's kinda funny though..

Yeah, this is really a great song. Much better than Where Do I Go From Here IMHO. Now, as for Miss Ross making a scene...who? Diana? Naww.......

All of the Supreme's 70's disco cuts are really class. With promotion they may have gone somewhere (HOW "Let Yourself Go" was never bigger I'll never know...)

Hah!!! :P

You know that if Miss Ross wanted that song for herself--one call to Berry Gordy woulda had the Supremes vocals erased and Miss Ross in the recording studio vocalizing!!!

"Whatever ___wants, ____gets." Fill in the blank with Tenacious D.

I doubt Miss Ross coulda' handled it...

Mary Wilson seems to echo the regret that it was never a single in the liner notes. Mind you, I am sure she thinks with promtion, "Red Hot" might've been number 1 for years.

Kidding. I love Mary. Those girls worked & worked & worked and all they got was forgotten.

Grumbles. I'm gonna listen to "Come Into My Life" and sulk now.
