Default Santa Baby

The song Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt came on the radio this morning. I have, of course heard the song before but never really paid that much attention to the words. How wierd, it's almost the Christmas version of Eartha's Where's My Man. Too funny.

Actually....Where's My Man was the ripoff since Santa Baby was released in 1953; WMM was a campy attempt to reignite the vampy sex kitten persona of Ms. Kitt...it worked in the Gay clubs.....went to #7 on the Billboard Dance chart... Madonna's cover of Santa Baby sucks bigtime, however...waaaaaaaay too cutesy and lacking in wit and originality. Madonna shocks and provokes but isn't witty, not unless Bruce Vilanch writes some bitchy banter for her (like he does for Miss Midler).

from AMG:

"Kitt scored a holiday hit at the end of 1953 with the breathy, over-the-top "Santa Baby," which proved to be the biggest single of her career. It also marked the peak of her popularity; audiences who couldn't get enough of her act in 1953 were growing accustomed to her style, and she was a less dominant presence in 1954..."
