Default it's not my absolute favorite....

but one of my favorite disco lyrics has always been the lyrics to Whirlwind's "Full Time Thing". It goes "If your love is true, then why do I only see you between dusk and dawn? Why can't your love be a full time thing?" If someone ever said that to me I'd have a REAL hard time coming up with one of my smart-alecky comebacks. Even the ones I have memorized wouldn't cut deeply enough.....And Elbow Bones and the Racketeer's "A Night in New York" has classy lyrics like "I have had a thousand guys who would want my big brown eyes..And a least a hundred times, they have almost lost their minds. I have had them promise me caviar and limousines. But if they really knew me, they take me for a night in New York." Those lyrics really paint a picture in your mind...

"More than a Woman" was a nice song with nice lyrics and let's keep it at that. Both versions -- the BeeGees and The Tavares.
Add to the list (I love the Philly sound) the O'Jay's "Message In our Music".

Right on! Music is for the mind, body and soul, not to be analysed and discussed til' it's ruïned.

Fact: When someone who speaks Flemish (like me and my buddies) hear the Bee Gees' "You should be dancing" we clearly hear them singing "Wat doe je met gebakken patatjes?" (What are you doing with baked potatoes?) Skywalker, say it isn't so!

So for us it's a song about cooking?

My favourite meaningful disco lyric is:
C'mon let's do the Cocomotion, baby let's do the Cocomotion...
Sorry! Just kidding!

I like a lot of PET SHOP BOYS lyrics.
Neil Tennant once said that his aim was to write DISCO MUSIC with UN-DISCO lyrics.

My favourite one is the lyric for DOMINO DANCING, because it deals with an unfaithful partner and the danger of getting AIDS (the year was 1989).

I don't know if my english is correct to say this:
Place all the pieces of a DOMINO game (standing up) in a queue and then you drop the first one which goes dropping all the others...
Well... Neil Tennant made of this a comparison to the spreading of the HIV virus... It's the Domino Dancing...

I think it was an original imagery.

I DON'T KNOW WHY, I DON'T KNOW HOW
I THOUGHT I LOVED YOU, BUT I AM NOT SURE KNOW
I'VE SEEN YOU LOOK AT STRANGERS TOO MANY TIMES
THE LOVE YOU WANT IS OF A DIFFRENT KIND

REMEMBER WHEN WE FELT THE SUN
A LOVE LIKE A PARADISE, HOW HOT... IT BURNED
A THREAT OF A DISTANT THUNDER, THE SKY WAS RED
AND WHEN YOU WALK YOU ALWAYS TURN EVERY HEAD

I THOUGHT THAT WHEN WE FOUGHT I WAS TO BLAME
NOW I KNOW YOU PLAY A DIFFERENT GAME
I WATCH YOU DANCE WITH DANGER STILL WANTING MORE
ADD ANOTHER NUMBER TO THE SCORE

ALL DAY ALL DAY WATCH THEM ALL FALL DOWN
ALL DAY ALL DAY DOMINO DANCING

I DON'T KNOW WHY, I DON'T KNOW HOW
I THOUGHT I LOVED YOU, BUT I AM NOT SURE KNOW
I HEAR THE THUNDER CRASHING, THE SKY IS DARK
AND NOW A STORM IS BREAKING WITHIN MY HEART

In Lewis A. Martinee's (Expose's producer) DOMINO DANCING BASE MIX, Tennant adds: TE VAS A QUEMAR!!!
... which means in portuguese: YOU WILL GONNA GET BURNED!

" MORE THAN A WOMAN "
--- Bee gees

BY REQUEST : The deep disco lyrics :

"...... more than a wo-man .....
....... more than a woman to meee....."

Then Barry is faintly heard in high falsetto interjecting :

....."that something extra in your lovin' is so hard to ignore ......"

I agree...the Pet Shop Boys brand of dance music is totally unique. It's obvious that they quite beautifully blended their love for disco with their need for personal expression through the lyrics. It may not be to everyone's taste and perhaps meaningful words are not what the majority of people need on the dancefloor, but there's no denying their talent and also importance for giving dance music some legitimacy to a narrow-minded public.

"I was faced with a choice at a difficult age
Would I write a book? Or should I take to the stage?
But in the back of my head I heard distant feet
Che Guevara and De'bussy to a disco beat"

Left To My Own Devices...Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe
