| Ok First thing is First This is in no way a discussion of free music trade so lets leave that out of the thread All I want to know is do you think it is right what the Record Companies are doing by keeping out lost gems of the 70's SOul, Funk, Groove and Disco era to lie and slowly dien in their archives My Music Taste is in many ways what people would refer to as black music I like old rnb as old as the shirrells I even sometimes tune into to some old doo wop like Dion and The Belmonts and the Earls I like Soul ever since it came I love Funk I like Groove The LArger Part of Disco and also modern part of RnB and Hip hop. I think the reason I like this music is mostly because it has had a different start then most of pop commercial music. I was just watching a documentry on the birth of modern pop music the late 30's early 40's. How there was this one guy who mixed clasical strings with a beat. And how the people that had the hit factory didn't think of a song but they thought of a hit record. How they figured out to make songs that would make people addicted after like hearing it 5times. And how they started making music based on this formula and how they were succeding and breaking new record sales at the time. How they basically made music into a bigMoney making buisness. As much as it amazed me It also upset me becasue I knew it would be from this day forward that music would always be a power struggle. It was the day music lost its innoncence its pureness its virginity if you will. As I was saying earlier RnB, Funk, Soul, Groove and Disco took a different turn since these styles where mostly inspired firstly by Jazz and Blues. Which indirctly created First 3. They where created outside the usual winning formula all the major labels and record companies were very sceptical to this 'black' invention. And Inaway we should be thankful for their prejudicsm and sceptism. This created a portection/grooming net for this music style of where it could grow and flourish. Inaway RnB and Soul and later Funk and Disco have a much purer platform to come from. As Disco grew bigger and bigger and white people also had to get up and dance. IT became a big money oppertunity. At the same time the Majors saw that Because of Atlantic and Motown and their amazing growth and popularity. And there was no end for the growth. So when the Genious from Minneapolis formely known as Prince released his sophmore album Self titled Prince. With the first song I wanna be your love hitting of as any ordinary disco/funk track. With nice brass and strings in the background. but then in the end of the song it transcended into electronics. His experiment with electronics yieleded great fascination at the time. The next song on the track (can't be bothered to check it now) was a pure Disco/electronic song. As the record companies had missed out on their last major cut of the cake (like 98% of the Market Share) They weren't about to do this again. And with the Exploiter and one of the biggest milking cows of our time. the dissillusioned Michael Jackson capitalized togehter with producer Quincy Jones. On Prince's invention and released Thriller first song Wanna be starting Something Blends keyboard and drum machines with old instruments and basically try to show how superior the prior are to the latter. Michael Jackson was now the toll of the majors to kick start this new genre totally on their own. And they could now stick to their milking cow concept which had been so succesful in the 50's and the 50's. Before Flower Power and Later after Disco. They effictvley smudged the reputation of Disco. As something sissy and chessy..... Outlawed any funk from getting airplay. Got rid of the varierity and many different small independent labels of the 70's. By either buying them or making them go broke by Major Marketting of their Milking Cows. So Why are the Record Companies making such a big fuss now is it because the era of public enlightment when it comes to music is coming back to the 60/70's when everyone could be their own critic and everyone could be proud of their own music taste. Is it because the record companies are worried they can no longer map out the success stories of the next Brittney or N'Sync since People well be too enlightned even the 12year olds!!!! and see through their money shceme to early or are they worrying that the A&R people will have to become creative and artistic inorder to find the next star and not rational and logic reading charts and making budget plans...... But is it fair of the Record Companies To Control and Artform such as music and trying to tell our sub conscience what we should and should not listen to
