This is related to the recent posts about disco "music videos". Being born in 1984, I wasn't around in the 70s to witness the disco scene, and I am totally mesmerized by the footage from the 70s, especially when its a disco "music video". When I first began falling in love with disco as a teenager in the late 90s, I recorded everything I could that related to disco that came on TV. (Usually VH1) I recorded one special called "Disco Number Ones" that was a promo for the movie "54" in 1998. One video featured on this special was a live recording of A Taste of Honey's "Boogie Oogie Oogie" from 1978. To me, this is my vision of what disco was all about. The dancers in the video look like they are having the time of their lives, as if they didnt have a care in the world. I guess that was about the time disco was at its peak... I just wanted to share with you disco veterans how much I enjoy watching the footage from the 70s, and how jealous I am that I wasnt born 30 years earlier to be there with you. But, if I were there, I might not appreciate disco music the way that I do today.

Hi DjTN84 Is that your name or a model Number. Nice to get people into the Disco scene who were not around at the time.As they say "its not all like the movies you know". To a vast majority of people (me included) the disco scene was a strange place. If you were a man and liked Disco and dancing then you must be gay.Real men didn't dance in those days.Unless you were lucky enough to live in New York and be mates with David Mancuso the nearest thing to a discoteque was the local village hall. The walls would be running with condensation and the records would jump everytime someone shut the hall door. Then there was always the guy that realised if his stamped hard on the floor the records would jump(git). As for playing music (i was a mobile dj) things were a little frustrating.I would buy the latest 12" singles some of which were imports to impress the crowds. There was a girl who came up and asked why i was playing all old records. I said they are not old they're new . She said that they cannot be new because they are not in the chart or been on Top Of The Pops!. So in them days you had to buy two sets of records. 1 set for your own pleasure and another full of all the pop fodder to keep joe public happy. The sound systems were great as well (not) My first set up was a mono Fal 50 sytem. 25 watts per channel (no i haven't missed the 0 from 250) Most car stereo's beat that for output today. So the system was run to just below distortion point all night. My Disco was name was "British Hustle" (Thanks To Hi Tension I had my own theme tune). Don't get me wrong I loved that period of my life. I think that Disco was ahead of its time. The technology wasn't there to back it up so it fizzled out. I listen to some of todays Disco House which have nice fat basslines and deep beats added to the original samples and think thats how the producers back in the seventies really wanted the music to sound but couldn't.That technology has bought disco back into todays music which then makes younger people delve into the archives to find out more. Keep your interest up as some us are dropping off. My best friend and mobile jock up until last year passed away recently. He had been a mobile dj from 1974 to 2005. Rip Mike and the Bubble and Squeak Roadshow.

hmm. i thought it was more acceptable for guys to do the hustle "back in da days". maybe i΄m proven wrong...i still enjoy the old school way of dancing better. it looked more "camp". nowadays it΄s acceptable to dance, but it΄s more about to grind against the ladies.
