Default Do NOT buy from getdisconnected.com

I do not know if this is allowed here but I'll try to warn people anyway. . .

Do NOT buy from getdisconnected.com. I placed an order for six discs on July 30 and promptly paid by PayPal ($90). To date, I have received nothing but broken promises. They do not answer their email unless you plead with them and when they do they promise to send something but never do.

I'll post again if anything changes, but I remain skeptical.

An earlier post
http://www.discomusic.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12270
echoes your findings. It is strongly suggested that anyone who insists on buying any of these getdisconnected CDs do so through a trusted source like Amazon. At least this way they can receive a full refund if the CD never arrive.

It's really a shame as this label looked so promising at the start.

Please keep us informed of the outcome.

Are they pressed CDs or are they CD-Rs? You can tell how on top of things they are when their website talks about Free Shipping on mail orders through April 1 2005.

Its legit CDs, but I do believe its vinyl transfers with a high quality table and clean up through high tech software like most hot productions was on most of their stuff. Im a pro so to speak at vinyl clean up/digitizing and can really tell the difference between real master tapes and vinyl clean ups. And the Poussez was pure vinyl clean up to my ears. If you listen on headphones and know what your lookin for you can tell. I will give them credit though for doing the best possible job from vinyl. But thanks to the person for the warning

Thanks for the info. Sounds like what Hot Productions does (did?) a lot. Same with Unidisc. I can usually tell if a vinyl source is used. I've got mixed feelings about that. If the vinyl is super expensive and the CD from a vinyl source is cheap, then I don't mind buying it then. But some vinyl sourced records I've bought have been atrocious, like the Loose Change/TJM two on 1 CD from the UK, and that Italian pressed CD of the Stratavarious LP. Those sounded like they took a record straight from a garage sale and transferred it as is. I'm surprised there weren't any skips.

Has everyone gotten their promised CDs? The rep from getdisconnected told me everyone would be taken care of and promised to reply to this thread to explain, but never did. Oh well, he had a chance to set the record straight. Keep this thread going to till all CDs have been received.

I hate to drag this thing back up, but unfortunately I've got a few issues with this company now..

I won a copy of the Debbie Jacobs - High On Your Love CD from getdisconnected/Harlequin Entertainment's eBay seller back at the beginning of November.. I emailed them in December wondering about my CD and why it still hadn't arrived; they promptly replied and told me about the delays with the hurricane and so on.. They said they would follow it up and in the worse case scenario would "gladly reship the item." Two months and two emails later (with no replies) still nothing.

Any future releases from them, I'll be buying directly from either amazon or some other trusted online retailer. Watch out for their ebay or amazon marketplace IDs..

I had a very very very similar instance almost word for word.
I ordered off a guy named Rafael Vidal and he blamed hurricane, said he would reship, and he finally came through about 1 month later. The title was First Choice Anthology UK.
The fallacy to his argument was "I'll just reship; It's lost in mail." A seller can't make money this way and I reported him to Amazon. This seller's commercial name was "Midsunnight" and he was shipping from Florida and had several Debbie Jacobs and 'disconnect CDs'.
In the end, he came through, but communication was poor.

That's annoying. When you sell items via Ebay, there's no such thing as 'backorder'. You either already have it or you don't. Making excuses about hurricanes, etc... is bull, because you shouldn't sell until you know your local post office is up and running. If you are going to take your chances and buy their stuff, definitely go through Amazon.com. They don't give you the run around like Paypal.

After looking at Amazon.com's feedback for Midsunnight, it looks like they are the same people as getdisconnected.com. Look at all of the neg feedback, all using the hurricane excuse. If there was a problem with power outages at their local post office, why didn't they inform the purchasers ASAP?

I think many of these sellers like caiman, djangos, midnightsun, ect are somewhat legitimate. I believe that they do not have the product on hand but know where to get it extremely cheap and then drop ship. They pick more obscure collectable stuff that most people don't carry and they undersell Amazon.
It's somewhat of a double edge sword but it may be worth it if they come through. They put you off to keep the sale. Don't mind waiting but can't stand being lied to.

Default so, I'm just wondering

why doesn't somebody sue these getdisconnected people? And, not to change the subject, can somebody tell me more about this Debbie Jacobs and Paul Sabu title? Is it 3 different artists on one recording, or are they performing as a group (I've never heard of this record). When was it released and on what label? Anyone have a picture of the front cover so I can keep an eye out in case I see it in a store? Thanks.

I figure I oughta post an update on this now..

I finally got my CD this past July 2006.. Finally. Although the sound quality is a less than stellar, I was happy that they followed it up. Apparently, a little post that I made on my blog caught their attention..

In their reply to me in July, it sounded like they sincerely wanted to straighten out their outstanding orders. I definitely don't think they're out to cheat people or anything, if anything, they just seem disorganized.. Next time I'm definitely ordering their releases from either Amazon.com, dusty groove or perfectbeat..

I haven't got any of their newer reissues (Ann-Margret, Celi Bee, Rice & Beans Orchestra), although I am curious about them.. Just wondering if anyone here who's bought any of those CDs can vouch for their quality..

I apologize.. I know this is a late reply, but in case you're still wondering..

I don't have the LP with me at the moment, but I don't believe Debbie Jacobs was involved in that Sister Power title.. That was just a Paul Sabu-produced Studio group with Gwen Jonae on lead vocals.. I suppose if you like Debbie's records, you'll like that one too. There are at least a couple of good tracks on it, IMO..
