Not really, it was tongue-in-cheek  The only guy I liked that night was Borat, he was mocking the whole event but I think the MTV-people didn't get the message

It always fascinates me how opinions here differ so much re whether a record or group are or aren't disco. To my ears 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' by Swedish pop group Abba is pure disco. The production is slick, the beat & bassline are very disco & the theme of the song is a typically scurrilous one from the late 70s era. But because it was by a successful pop group & was never underground or soulful or played at some trendy loft in Manhattan the general concesus is that it isn't 'disco'. :-? The world of disco appreciation can be a very diverse &, some may say, snobby one, n'est pas?

I initially hated this song, who needs to hear that ABBA panpipe riff again? But admit that now I'm close to loving it!

I discovered Madonna's "Hung Up" last nite and I found it to be awesome! A day before I had caught late her performance on the European MTVs but was shocked and happy at her doing a disco sounding/looking performance.

Borat was so hilarious!

I think this is her best song since Music back in 2000.

I like the sampling and the way she looks on the video, so early 80s lol

All I hear in Madonna's new song is the ABBA sample--is it just me??? Her "song" seems like teflon--I only hear/remember the ABBA!! :o :-?

The speeded up BPM tempo of the ABBA sample make it even more catchy and enjoyable. Now the original ABBA version seems so slow in comparison. Too bad ABBA didn't speed up the tempo a bit on their original as well.

Thought I would post this link to an article that appears today on the BBC news website regarding Madonna. and her 'Disco' album.

I think "Hung Up" is an okay song, but certainly not great. I'm glad she went in a disco direction rather than jumping on the fitty cent bandwagon.

The release of the album is certainly one of major interest.

First of all, it shows us all what needs to be done in today's world if an artist wants a number one record: promote, promote, promote! I don't believe that I've seen this type of commotion to this extent around any album in the past...it's comparable to how they promote movies three months before their release.

The most interesting thing to me though is the fuss around the fact that Madge is taking us back to the dancefloor ('us' as in the mainstream...some of 'us' never left!) Recently, there was some guy from US Weekly on CNN hyping the whole project saying that it's just a 'fun album'. I've listened to the album a couple times now and 'fun' isn't quite the word that I would use to describe it.

To be fair, I've never been very fond of Madonna's music to begin with. I started djing in the clubs when Holiday first hit the dancefloors so I've endured countless requests for 'anything by Madonna' ever since. When I heard that this new album would be dance-oriented and even possibly, disco-influenced, I had hopes of something that could possibly change the landscape of pop music going back to better times of well-written, classic-style songs. I really wanted to like the new album but I'm afraid that, for me, only the words boring and uninspiring come to mind.

What is amazing is on a couple other forums that I go to (one that's gay and one that's a dance label), there are very positive reviews...'fantastic', 'best album in a long time', 'without a weak track' and so on. Different strokes I guess....but what if these people do think that the tracks on this album are, as US Weekly describes it, 'fun'? It kinda scares me to think that today's audience is so stressed, sad and musically-deprived that an album such as this is the sort of thing that will give society a boost. :-?

No offense but surely you have heard of pitch control on a turntable right?

Yes, I enjoy pitching things up and down, but think the original 1979 as released version of "Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)" may have benefited from the faster tempo as well.

I think all we really needed was a remix of GGG instead of this sort of pandering on Madge's behalf. If you want that, download the SP Dubas you get less "Hung Up" and more of the awesome beefed up synth & bass lines.

I just think ABBA is sacred and should ne'er be sampled.
