Referring to Yambu's recording as a remake of the Bobby Hebb track, is a very common misconception. Although the Boney M track is a remake of "Sunny... Yesterday my life was filled with rain...", The Yambu track is an entirely different song; "Sunny... Thank you for your love...
Strange then, that the Yambu track is credited to B. Hebb.

To my ears it's absolutely a remake. maybe they changed some of the lyrics, but the tune is identical.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the interest and input...I appreciate it!
__________________________________________________ _________________________________________
Regarding "Feel The Need In Me"......I asked the question about this one...I think maybe you are referring to something else...????

from.....
THE DISCO COMPILATION CONSENSUS TOP 50 + 2

Chart #65 (volume 2/ #3): January 17, 1976

42) * FEEL THE NEED IN ME - Genya Ravan
(De-Lite 45/12" promo) (3 points/D)
1 week on the chart/ DEBUT (N/A)

GENYA RAVAN (debuts @ #42)

"As Goldie of Goldie and the Gingerbreads, Genya Ravan toured with the early Rolling Stones; later she led an abominable horn band, Ten Wheel Drive. But in the late Seventies, she became enamored of New Wave rock and after producing the Dead Boys debut LP, made this heavy-breathing affair on her own. ("Urban Desire" ***)
It's more notable for street smarts, than anything approaching melody, but it's tough enough to get by--with a little help from such pals as Lou Reed.
(DM = Dave Marsh)
(This LP came later than the "Feel The Need In Me" charting this week. Question: is this a remake of the Detroit Emeralds record???)

As I recall, [remember I typed this stuff long ago....] Genya Ravan charted the "Feel The Need In Me" that I wondered about being a cover of the Detroit Emeralds song... I thought someone said it was, but I don't have any proof....so you are saying it is not?--just another song with the same title?

Genya Ravan Feel The Need In Me (12") Disco Music.com no writer credit!!!

oh wait lookee what a Google search found!!!

TITLE: Feel The Need In Me ARTIST: Genya Ravan MEDIA:12 Inch Single LABEL:De-Lite* GENRE:Soul 12" Singles RELEASE COUNTRY :USA RELEASE DATE:1975 CONDITION (INNER / OUTER):VG+ / VG+ OTHER INFORMATION:- Promo Copy - Rare Demo Of This Uptempo Female Version Of The Detroit Emeralds Toon -

I'm gonna dispute your Yambu's "Sunny" is not the Bobby Hebb "Sunny" claim...see the label scan... Granted, it's a jazzy improvisational takeoff on the tune....not a word for word recreation...but the songwriter credit is B.Hebb

SUNNY / CABALLO
YAMBU

BTW, my Soul Train scramble should have included a second "T"..my bad

A E H L M N O S T U H O..... AS IF!!! ...only 1 "T"

For correctly identifying Thelma Houston....

You win a years supply of Posner Hair Relaxing Product...use with caution..I think too much Posner's Light Touch on the brain caused Natalie Cole to become a crack ho!!! [Wasn't she a spokesperson for that product!!!]

Hmmm... I know that memories can get fuzzy after 30-35 years, and I'm preparing for a contest this Sat. Which has me so carb-depleted, that I can barely spell my own name, but... I'm never THAT far of base.

RE: YAMBU's "Sunny": Let me move a couple boxes and dig through a couple crates and I'll come back with better information, or at least an explanation for my own confusion.

RE: "Feel The Need": It was definitely on Westbound Records and may have been a promo-only release. But I DID see and hear it in January of '06, when I was visiting an old DJ friend in San Francisco. Let me get the exact label info from my friend, who has the record.

I'm listening to the Ravan 12" right now. It's definitely on De-Lite, and is definitely the Detroit Emeralds song.
I'm also in with you and Quinny on "Sunny." It's the Bobby Hebb number. Kind of the same treatment as the Ritchie Family's "Brazil," where most (if not all) of the lyrics are thrown away and just the melody line remains.
