I'm guessing that you are referring to the Ritchie Family's shameless plug of another record off their LP --"ROMANTIC LOVE" within their disco hit medley "THE BEST DISCO IN TOWN" "love, romantic love...you are my loooooooooove!" Every song within "BDIT" is a hit except for that one...which I presume they were grooming it to be...and it's not a bad song...just never got mentions like all the other tracks did.... Am I a winner???

| That point is never in question dear master of the charts ---- But to find the angle here that I'm referring to ... will require another serious * review of the Top 10 records ........ *( a distant clue yes , but "let's get serious" and use it again anyway *.... ***** * for the last time though ........I promise !

Jacques Morali's studio group The Ritchie Family return to the chart following up their spectacular success with "Brazil" in 1975--charting their new Jukebox track (is this the precursor to "Uptown Festival" and all those Stars on 45 records???--I'm just askin") For the record, these are the records cited in THE BEST DISCO IN TOWN: Reach Out, I'll Be There I Love Music Bad Luck TSOP Fly, Robin, Fly Brazil ("You got me where you want me") Love To Love You Baby That's The Way I Like It Lady Bump Express Lady Marmalade & Romantic Love!!!! ("anytime you want me-- love...romantic love...you are my looooove") I think maybe they envisioned "Romantic Love" as being the next HIT single....but it never happened...all the other tracks from the LP..."Arabian Nights" & "Baby I'm On Fire" (my personal fave)...did chart...but "Romantic Love" never did.

| ***** OK, so twas my turn to be absent that day ... Now time to get serious again .... Other than under the serious moonlight .....I know of only one other such "serious" ly a focused disco song .....and that would be LET'S GET SERIOUS by Jermaine Jackson. But a serious review for Jermaine in the top 10 will reveal nothing there from him ... if looking for the latest song by him that is ..... But look for his latest record instead ....and there it is way up there at # 6 ..... hiding as the "b" side to The Originals DOWN TO LOVE TOWN . So correct in doing so ….. JJ could've claimed that he had a big hit disco record out at the time ... even though no regions were reporting the playing of his LET'S BE YOUNG TONIGHT song . His record was indeed selling like hotcakes though ... thanks to the hit on the other side !!! This double-artist-on-one release thing ... where one could occasionally find one artist on one side of the record and yet another on the other .... was an idea unique to disco due to its new found 12" single format and the labels experimenting with how to best use it ... . This idea was especially played with during these earliest 12 inch single days where there are several examples working the chart now or recently .... One label that continued to favor this device was Motown . ... they went on to use this split artist packaging for years …. It's just too bad they weren't better at it Motown rarely (if ever ????... can we name one ? Motown loved the marketing concept but couldn’t seem to do make it work for them . Instead of providing the consumer with twice the bang for their buck …..their lackluster double headers tended to make you feel twice as ripped off !!! Still have to give them credit for exploring the concept and the extra effort in packaging they put into it.... some nice sleeves .... ******

| OK, I see what you were going for there......."Let's Be Young Tonight" reminds me of a Ralph Carter-type release ...bubble-gummy...but not bad. I read someplace tha Tata Vega's "Full Speed Ahead" was on the flip side of "Down To Love Town"....but I have seen the release with Jermaine Jackson on the b-side... So was there a release with Tata + The Originals also??? Or was that bad info I read???

NEW YORK—A number of record labels were passing out new releases at Billboard’s recent Disco II convention held here. A.J. Miller, who was passing around the “Street Talk” LP by the Bob Crewe Generation on Elektra Records, had enough records in his suite to service New York City and all of the record pools in the country. The LP, with three strong cuts, is getting heavy play in New York. “Free” is a happy, uptempo song about being free. “Ah Men!” is again an uptempo song with several interesting breaks that border on the Latin sound. As its title implies, this is a song about men and sounds like a girls’ choir singing all the lead parts. “Menage A Trois” is sung mostly in French with the big band sound of the 1940s in parts of the orchestration. The rhythm section with its percussion instruments adds a Latin touch. Also in the LP is a new, longer version of the group’s classic “Street Talk.” Slower, romantic, but still very danceable, is “Welcome To My Life,” while “Back Alley Boogie” is funky and not as uptempo as the others. The concept of this LP is built around a Broadway show which tells a story of Cherry Boy, who discovers what life is all about. It is a unique product. Just about everyone was courting the favors of Mark Paul Simon, who was passing out the new Donna Summer LP titled “Four Seasons Of Love.” Once again Summer emerges sounding like she is wrapped in satin sheets. |
